I'm working on a brochure
I have inserted an image complete with mask, and layer effects.
My purpose for this is so as the next year begins, I can update the images with my latest Senior images by simply inserting the new photo.

I'm having difficulty pasting into the layer (if possible)

The easiest I have found is Selecting by the Layer mask, using Paste Into, ( which creates a differnt layer of iteslf, but then I have to redefine the Layer effects I have already established.

thanks in advance for the help

Make a selection and then "Paste Into"?

Wally,

After Paste Into, do a Merge Down (Ctrl-E on windows, command-E on Mac). A message box will pop up asking whether you want to apply the mask on the layer below or preserve it. Select Preserve. The image will be merged into the lower layer and your layer mask and layer styles will remain intact.

If you do this a lot, you can record this as an action so you won't have to keep replying to the popup.

thanks for the help.
a solution came from another forum.
I was making the error of having the chain link chosen between the image and the layer mask. Not sure how that shows in cd, but 7 then allows the mask and the image to move attached to each other. I found that once I unlinked the two, I can insert and replace the image without re configuring the layer properties

thanks,
