Is there a method to transfer a photo to a smooth painted (latex) dry wall? For example, one can transfer a photo to a mug, to a shirt, to a piece of ceramic, so can I do the same for a wall? If so, what product would I use?

I have used Avery Dark Transfers 03279 to transfer images to shirts and mouse pads and ceramic tiles. I imagine they would work fine on a wall. This porduct is different from transfer sheets that go on light / white backgrounds. The transfer is actually a thin rubber / plastic like opaque film. You print the image on it, then peel the transfer off its back layer, and then iron or heat press the film onto a surface. There seem to be a number of these type of products on the market.
If your wall or surface is white or light colored, you can use the conventional heat transfers where you print you image in mirror image mode on the transparent transfer then apply it with heat to the surface.
Both of these type of transfers are available at a big box stationary supply store like Staples Business Depot or whatever the parent company in the US is called.

Instead of transferring to the wall, perhaps you could have large prints made and put them up like wallpaper. I don't know anything about this company, but something like this: http://www.foto1.com/wallpaper/

There is adhesive vinyl for ink jet printers that then can be applied to the wall which I assume is what the company that Doug listed is using. I recently recieved a sample for my Epson 9800, however, I haven't tried it yet. I guess this has become quite the thing in LA, as people can now create custom wallpaper.

A sport's store recently asked me if I could create a mural on one of their wall with some of my various high school sports photos. The concept is interesting, but I didn't know if their was a medium to do such a thing. I'll probably try Murray's suggestion and let you know the results.

Fascinating thread. The concept reminds of of wallpaper murals that were popular in the 70s and early 80s. You know the ones, large forested scenes or rain forest pictures. I always wondered how they got such big pictures to paste up there. I think the concept the sports store is asking about makes a unique contribution to your community. Go for it.
