Looking for some help with the patch tool.

Love the thing but I keep running into the same problem.

I select the part I want 'fixed' and move it to the 'new' area that I want in it's place. The new, pristine area appears in the selection.
But when I release the mouse, I get the new area but a weird 'blend' of the original area remains along with the fresh 'patched' sample.

What am I not getting?

If you select near a distinct edge of different colors - the result will be a mixture of those colors. The patch spreads out some to blend in the area.
Hard to put in words.
Also, using a small area is better.

Simple - this is exactly what the patch tool should be doing!
As shown in the thread linked by Ken, it will try it's very best to combine the old and the new - and as such is a wonderfully useful tool.

If, however, you want to replace the old stuff with the new, then you need the "stamp" tool and not "patch".

I've also recently discovered that feathering can also cause a weird edge around the healed area. Someone suggested to me to use the least amount of feathering around your selection, or if using the healing brush tool, to make it harder, rather than softer (opposite of the clone tool, which may need a softer brush).
