I had a try at this photo, mostly I added some leaves to the middle, then I sharpened it, then I used a layer of 50% gray and painted with the dodge and burn tool, then I copied this layer 2 times to make the effect more dramatic. Finally I used the select color adjustment layer to skew the colors some.

Had a quick go at this - thanks for the pic Carole. That ice was quite something! All Photoshop manipulation, Paint Engine, Unsharp mask levels and curves and Saturation adjustment.

Just having fun with Amazing Circle action and GIMP's small tile filter. Also added Mehdi's Kaleidoscope filter (got the smaller ones with that). :)

Oh yes; added the background with Harry's Rasberry filter.

Interesting picture. Seems to be a lot of freezing going on in the U.S. these days. Earlier this week there was about 3" of snow in some of the Seattle suburbs that didn't melt for three days, something that is unusual for around here.

This type of pic is ideal for doing something abstract. In this mode you can go nuts with color and effects without feeling obliged to explain "what it is." :)

The random rectangles effect was achieved by experimenting with Impressionist's Geometric > Half-tone Squares settings to create a layer of randomly placed and sized black rectangles against a white background. I applied this Impressionist setting to a copy of the Background.

With this black and white layer active I switched to Photoshop's Channels Palette and Ctrl + clicked on the RGB composite channel which "loaded the selection." Select > Inverse Selection came next. Back to the Layers Palette... Turn off the BW layer and select the Background. Ctrl + J to make a new layer based on the selection. From there it's anything goes with filters, blend modes, adjustment layers, Layer Styles.

I felt like I was in Brazil for Carnival. :)
