How did you go about achieving the layout?

That layout can be achieved in Photoshop using the Automate->Contact sheet. You can add a folder of pictures with various options.

Here's one I did for a current retouching customer I'm doing. You end up with a 2 layer Photoshop file at the size you have requested. (It helps that all your photos have been cropped the the same size/resolution before you start).

The top layer is the contatct sheet where the photos are placed and positioned. There is a lower blank layer that you can change background color etc. You can add canvas to the lower portion so that you can add text too.

If you have more photos than will fit on the page, Photoshop will just continue adding more "pages" (which are actually separate Photoshop files) until all the photos in the folder are done. Very handy for getting comps out to clients.

Good info, Swampy. I've written a few actions and messed with Contact Sheet a bit for this purpose.

In PS7 there's no "auto-fix" option, nor the ability to specify spacing between thumbnails like there is in CS2.

If "auto-fit" is OFF and both H, V spacing values are 0.0", will CS2 in fact fill a page with thumbnails (according to #rows/columns specified) with literally no space between each one? I'm looking to achieve a mosaic-like look with itty-bitty thumbnail images.

I don't know about PS7 since I haven't used it in ages. Sure can't hurt to try. I recently did some graphics for a local high school reunion of small clips. I built the page files separately which allowed me to rotate and combine images in a customized way. There were lots and lots of layers in some of the files. Using the contact sheet page just would not do that job. I've seen the effect you are shooting for, but can't say if they were generated using the contact sheet feature.

I don't know about PS7 since I haven't used it in ages. Sure can't hurt to try.I can confirm it cannot be done in PS7. No option to specify amount of H or V thumbnail separation like is possible with CS II in CS2.

When you get a few minutes would you do me a favor and try it in CS2 with a couple rows of images?

FWIW: I can get what I want by:
* Using PuzzlePro 2.0 to create an image consisting of individual layers sized in any shape/size, e.g., 24"x20" canvas carved up into layers (2"x2" squares)
* Pre-cropping the source images
* Using an action invoked by Photoshop batch command to populate each layer

...but doing the whole thing in CS II (when I get CS3 :) ) would be so much easier. It would give me one more thing to look forward to!

Here's a file of 30 pictures. I tried this with 0 in borders and it still leaves white borders around each picture. It didn't matter if I had auto spacing ON or OFF, result was the same.
