I am curious what people would charge for something like this photograph to fully restore it to original

Retouchers have different approaches to their rates. Some charge an hourly rate, others a flat fee based on the job.

You need to think about how much time you will put into the photo, print costs, etc that you will incur. Then you have to decide what your time is worth. It’s a hard balance because people don’t like to part with their money. If you charge too much, you reduce your clientele.

and if you charge too little, folks will think you're a hack.

for me, on that image, just for the restore and a few basic prints or a cd with the files on it, $60; $120 if they want to have any input on it, and $240 if they want to watch and kibbitz :)

T Paul & Kraellin thanks for answering. I know people don not want to part with there money thats why I was curious about pricing a job like the one I posted.Seeing as it would take awhile to do and you do not want to give your time away

I've got a flyer from my local CVS Pharmacy "photo booth" offering retouch services. The header reads....

"Photo restorations & Makeover-Repair, Enhance or Change Your Cherished Photos...Only $39.99"

They do have a couple caveats about damaged photos and that they reserve the right to judge if a photo is restorable.

I charge $50 per hour with a $30 minimum. I would say the majority of the work I get (which is more than I expected when I started this caper) is easily covered by the minimum. This is for the actual restoration/retouch work. Prints, CD's etc. are additional

I also try to overestimate time in the quote. Then when I do the work more quickly my client is thrilled to have his restoration AND get it for less than what he thought he would be spending
