Alan -- love the original and your impasto!

Steve - Sunset fits nicely, and the comic art works also. I love the sunset glow.

Peter - Like it! -- the lighting and the mood!

I used Swampy's sketch routine as a start, then added selections to get the sky colors back and did a bit of dry brush...

Thank you CJ, though looking at it again - the sky could have been a lot better, I'm satisfied with the barn though.

Looking at yours. I can definitely say you must have done this sort of thing before - nice one.

Thanks....love to work on pics of old weathered buildings. And this one is very nice.

Ooo.. Card, this was a fun photo to work on.

Pen and ink wash...

Started with "Swampy's Line drawing" on a saturated duplicate.
Smudged the resulting black and white layer.

I really like this one. I enjoyed all of the interprations, but especially the Snap-Art Impasto (may need to get that one :)

Mine is just some edge art (Mehdi * AAA) and simplifications (Buzz & Paint Shop Pro).

Enjoy!

Will do tomorrow Peter when i have a bit more time ( unless shovelling snow we have the threat of it for the first time this year )

I know wonderful isn't it, I may get the day off work (if i'm real lucky), and be able to build snowmen with the kids (if the schools close that is).

Yep we got the snow, All the kids got the day off ( shut all the schools in Birmingham) and the airport shut for a while. It is great hearing kids having good clean fun out in the snow.

AHB tips for you i have explained a couple of times in threads how i do it ( cant remember which threads though :dizzy: if i find them i will put a link later )
basically i have the layers
background layer, fill layer ( any colour that takes your fancy) then large brush layer , medium brush layer , and lastly detail brush layer

My most used brush is Trimoons art history brush spatter 15a here is a link ( with a texture but i havent used the texture yet ! ! )

http://www.retouchpro.com/forums/photo-based-art/10294-trimoon-new-art-history-brush-tool-preset.html?highlight=trimoons+brushes

Also i turn the background off so i cant see what i am painting weird maybe but fun, Do you remember Rolf Harris and his "can you tell what it is yet " style of painting, well that is sort of what i do ( NO i do not copy the sounds he makes )

will add some pics in a while for a bit of a visual look at ! Added picture hope it helps someone, but was done roughly (about 5 mins)

P.S. impatience isnt always a bad thing Peter

Palms

Thanks for the info.

I am checking out the thread, downloading the brushes, you make it sound too easy.

On a lighter note, the schools here closed, I was trapped at home (terrible :dizzy: )
made a snowman, the kids decapitated it, had a great time in a snowball fight, watched a dvd,. Now i'm tired.

Well Palms tried it out, like it will do again certainly, still don't grasp exactly whats happening, but I suppose I don't have to.

thanks again for the head start.

Showing you age there. You really need a Didgeridoo, to make the noises properly, though it may interfere with using the mouse and the neighbours might not like all the kangeroos hanging about either.

Precisely get used to it, then start trying to understand and taking it further, trying different brushes, using layer blend modes etc but do still have fun

This is my version of this wonderful image.

Steps:
Opened image and run a color sketch script I made a while back.
This creates three other layer set to different blind modes other then the original color layer. You know your basic sketch effect except with the original colored layer left on the bottom. (Background Layer)

In this image after running the script I went back to the bottom layer the color layer and did a gaussian blur set to around 3 which gave me the milky look.

Added border and saved for web.

Hi Gary, I'd rather not share this script at this point. I use it for doing some of my postcard that I sale and really wouldn't what to be giving the competition a hand up if one of the local artist were to get a hold of it at this point. I may however share it later on once I've made some money off it!!!! LOL

Another thing it has to be placed in the trusted script folder due to the fact that it overlay's the sketched image on the original one to create the effect. Some/most folks wouldn't want to trust placing scripts into their trusted folders form folks they really don't know. Could be very bad for ones PC along with the face this script only works with earlier version of Paint Shop Pro, I think it works with versions up version 9.

If you would e-mail me off the board I will try and explain how to achieve the effect, it's really pretty simple if one knows how to do a pencil sketch.
