well, I started of trying to change the mood of a picture, but ended up doing a age retouch on this guy!

What do you think?

Personally I didn't get the hair right, the skin was abit difficult to work with...The dodge and burn was probably the easiest to do considering all the work and effort that was put in to this picture!

Please share your thoughts!

Looks great..didn't dare to try turning grey hair black..
I approached it with the only the healing brush and liquify filter..
Healing brush allowed for zippying around the image.
Then used the portaiture to smooth out the skin a little.

Gerry -- I think the image looks too much like "something was done", but I've recently found that photographs tell "too much truth" -- took some self-portraits and saw a lot more signs of age than I see in my mirror. I knew that I didn't really focus too closely when I glance in the mirror, but it was still a shock to see how much I had "missed". Looking at a photo is different -- you have to really look at the details. So even if it's "too much" nip/tuck, the person might not mind too much.. ;)

I took some years off -- tried to follow the rule of removing the downward lines first, then diagonals facing downward -- these pull the face down and make it look older more than the horizontal lines in our foreheads, etc. that most everyone has even in their 20's.

My thoughts...
The image does look worked over. It's a dramatic change, but I think that's due to the heavy, dark brows and dark hair. Although you've removed the wrinkles and gray hair, it doesn't quite have a youthful look. Probably because aging isn't just about wrinkles and gray hair. Certain areas need to be lifted. Think about what plastic surgeons do for a face lift. In your image, the eyes have folds of skin that should be removed, and the mouth and lips have the characteristics of aging (gums receeding). The brow line and forehead should probably be raised also. Additionally, I think I read somewhere where the nose and ears change with aging as well.
Regarding the retouching: The skin looks smudged (or pushed around) and a bit blurred in some areas. I would look for some tutorials for skin retouching that promote a "natural" look (as opposed to a "glamor" look.)

Hard to go back as far as you have convincingly.

I wish that some years were taken off of my back.

oh, this is kind of an interesting thread. i've seen a few where we bring someone forward in age and a few where we take out a few lines and wrinkles, but not one where we actually tried to regress someone's looks by a number of years.

so, here's my attempt:
