Hi,

I have this photo that I don't know where to start.

It's faded and yellow. It was a sunny day on a green golf course. Any ideas of where to start would be appreciated.

Start by replacing the red channel which is completely blown away. Add a Channel Mixer Adj layer and replace the red with about 40% G and 40% B.
I didn't spend much time after that. Just added a warming filter layer. You can use selective color or hue / sat layers to tweak various sections of the image.

I gave this a try. Color adjustment, sharpen, applied levels to each RGB color channel on an individual basis. I see that Murray has posted a response. He is really good so follow his work flow.

This is about as good as I could get it, hard to describe, as I "mucked about with it" for quite a while, and I forget most of what I did.

Biggest thing was to replace Red Channel with the Green, then adjust levels on all Channels to get best result, then did a lot of masked adjustment layers on various areas of the picture.

Looks like it would be best dealt with by someone doing a good colouring job on it.

The tries already posted are excellent (my favorites is Gary's and he's right that hand coloring would probably be your best bet to get the most realistic color back in the image).

This image is tough to work on because of the color cast and also because there are a lot of blown out highlights from the sun. To combat your issues have you considered trying to salvage the image by making it a b&w?

I went for b&w by fixing the red channel, adjusting levels, and using a channel mixer layer.

Well to start I look at the channels of the photo in RGB, CYMK, and Lab modes.

To start this one I adjusted the Lightness Value in Lab Mode and then increased the saturation. After that in RGB I used selective color. All the adjustments where Global. The result. Somewhat better.

It was a real challenge to get this far. I tried so many things that I can't remember. Lots of Curves and levels. Lots of HSL and Selective color.

I had a quick go at colourising this...

I started by replacing the red channel with a mix of the other two and set it to monochrome.
Then it was a case of selecting the different areas (i.e flesh tones, shorts, shirts etc) and altering curves on an adjustment layer. Changed levels overall slightly and finally a touch of unsharp mask.

It could really do with a bit more time spent on the selections!
If you zoom in, you'll see that the selection edges are not all that they could be! :dizzy:

You'll notice I only mentioned it ............. anyone who's ever seen one of my colouring jobs will understand why I didn't colour it myself. :D :D
