Retouch (http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t36/Ruudphoto92/angeliajolieretouchuiteindelijkecop.jpg)
And now is my question:
What do you think? And how would you do it? let me see:)!
All the Critique is welcome ;)!
Thanks!
Ruud.
Photoshop. it’s a Portrait of Angelina Jolie, Yeah she is already a beauty, I know;) Swampy 02-20-2007, 07:41 AM Ruud
Excellent job on the eyes!
A couple things I note.. lips lack "gloss", you lost her right shoulder altogether, her lower right chin area lost some pixels and the line is not smooth.
Skin tone and texture is good, but for the over all lighting on the face, I finde a little too much contrast between the left and right cheek areas. The left cheek may be a little too dark.
Good job. ruud92 02-20-2007, 08:19 AM Ruud

hmm, i dont understand how you mean that i misted gloss on her right shoulder? can you explain it more:)
I think you mean about the chins shadow line?
and about the cheeks i will make it lighter, thanks for the critique! im gonna do somthing with it.
i wil post the image again later when its changed;)

I have circled the shoulder area in the sample below where the definition of the shoulder line has been blown out.
As for her lips, they look dry and lifeless. They need more gloss or a wetter look.
After looking at your work in progress again, I must have had an anomoly on the screen redraw. The first time I looked at it her right jaw line looked crooked, but after re-opening the file, it looks fine. videosean 02-20-2007, 09:54 AM Ruud

Notice in Swampy's sig that they're using a Mac. Apple/Mac displays have a brighter gamma than PC/Windows displays. That section of the shoulder is very light but only the red channel technically goes beyond 255 - see attached images.
It all depends on your intended output I think but IMO this one's fine for my monitor. ruud92 02-20-2007, 10:30 AM Here is te changed retouched image again;)!
i did the lips, chin and the shoulder change.

R. harkain 02-20-2007, 11:53 AM You said you weren't sure if that image is copyrighted. Not that I care, but you can assume ALL images are copyrighted unless they state specifically that they are not. Photographer owns what passes through that lense. By the time you see the picture in a magazine or on a website, someone else usually owns some version of it to some degree, if not completely. So, if it makes you feel better, you are probably violating two copyrights! But I won't tell! Shhh! superkoax 02-20-2007, 01:53 PM it's a nice retouch of a retouche dpciture...but I can't help to feel that i feel smore artificial now...
Gerry yelhsaneerg 02-20-2007, 04:20 PM i think u did a really good job on it.....very subtle changes but a big difference Swampy 02-20-2007, 04:44 PM Rudd
Much better on the shoulder area. :-)
I think what is bothering me about her lips is that her eyes have so much sparkle and the skin is very "powdery" (is that a word). Her lips look powdered and women don't do that. They go out and buy expensive lip gloss to shine up their lips. Also, you'll note her lips are glossed in the original.
I did a very light dodge on her lips. Especially the lower one that is reflecting more light. ruud92 02-21-2007, 04:19 AM Rudd

First post of retouced image (http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t36/Ruudphoto92/angeliajolieretouchuiteindelijkecop.jpg)
The final one! till now. (http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t36/Ruudphoto92/plusglosspluslittlecolerenchangeplu.jpg)
thanks! Ruud. ilegales 02-21-2007, 10:55 AM Ruud thanks for those links
just an observation on my part is that on the final final version the lips are strange in that the lower lip pretrudes a lot more than the upper lip due to the darkening of the top and lightening of the bottom lip thus making the bottom lip appear closer to the viewer -
i prefere the lips on the previous version -
HOw are you getting the colour in this image ??
thanks dontbugme 02-22-2007, 07:58 AM the after one is ready to be published on the musclemag ruud92 02-22-2007, 09:42 AM dontbugme, I think that is a compliment haha..? thanks.
ehm, the color on this pic? just color Balance;)! and i did a sepia layer on it, just 25% and then i set the layer on 30% opacity;)
Ruud. zganie 02-25-2007, 06:45 PM Ruud i took a try on your photo tell me what you think
zganie I am laughing out loud at all this 'retouching' of an already retouched image...
Doesn't matter what you do, it looks way too much, because it's already retouched. You just touched it a lot, no retouch. ruud92 02-26-2007, 11:01 AM okey, maybe youre right Ant, but i have just fun in retouching and i try to get more experience, i try new things for me, and practise just to get better, i'm 14 years old so i'm not a prof or something you know;) and i just retouch for 2 years now. But I respect your opinion (as a prof i think? because you last time was talking about a maybeline thing? or something), so thanks for your critique, I will do something with it!;) (and thinking again of the photo not already was retouched)
zganie, i think you did a good job! but i think by that 'glowing effect' you make it on real -not that my image looks real, its way to perfect, no one can be like that, i know, its like Ant say 'it looks way too much', because its already retouched;)- but now for youre image, by that 'glowing effect' you
-for example- doesnt see the skin texture anymore;)! but for the rest it looks good For me;)!
Ruud. zganie 02-26-2007, 05:33 PM LOL well i am no fashion retoucher just wanted to mess with it actually,I do research on photography plus buy and sell photographs
zganie discinque 02-27-2007, 09:35 AM I'm in the "no expert" side of things - and very little experience doing it... and Lord knows I like messing around with pictures too. I think people often over work the eyes... making the whites TOO white - but I see it a lot on professional magazines too, so maybe it's just me.
The lips in this picture... in the original it looks like she is puckering for a kiss, but smoothing it changes the whole picture story, so though the reworked lips look fine... I'm not sure it's appropriate.
Just my 2cents :square: KLawson 02-27-2007, 03:06 PM I am somewhat of a newbie to re touching. If you could share the steps to achieve this please email me photoshop.ky@gmail.com

A request for a step by step tutorial via email really defeats the purpose of these forums where we share knowledge openly. I'm not saying that it is in any way "against the rules", but that if someone wants to write a step-by-step tutorial, their time and effort would be more effective if posted openly and shared by all. ruud92 02-28-2007, 11:04 AM I am somewhat of a newbie to re touching. Ruud marci03 03-19-2007, 06:07 AM Hy everybody!
What do you think, this retouch technique?
Thanks,
Martin from Hungary tommygirl 03-19-2007, 07:05 AM about the angelina photo: i think the eye color is a bit too artificial.
also, i don't really like the eyelashes. they seem smudged, they don't look realistic. i think they should be slimmer and curvier.
this is my attempt at "glossier" lips: |
