Palms pavel123 02-24-2007, 05:59 AM A combination of smart blur/sharpen and WC. Janet Petty 02-24-2007, 06:20 AM I love old cars. It will be fun to see what everyone does with this thread. However, in this picture, I love the tree more than the car. The wonderful, peaceful spread of it makes me think of lazy, warm afternoons and a picnic lunch. Sigh. Spring is just around the corner. I must be patient.
Janet palms1 02-24-2007, 07:43 AM Pavel that has given it some welcome lustre very nice
Janet i know what you mean the only problem was this was shot in our summer, picnic in hand and umbrella, Now the place to dream of is Stratford upon Avon loads of weeping trees, a river, swans , etc will have to talk hubby into going just to take a photo for you
PAlms Swampy 02-24-2007, 08:13 AM Thought I'd add some street lights. palms1 02-24-2007, 08:30 AM Thought I'd add some street lights.
That sets the scene very well Swampy
Palms Steve Conway 02-24-2007, 08:48 AM Thought I'd add some street lights.
Now that's nifty!
Steve C. Swampy 02-24-2007, 10:39 AM My original tought was to add a duck parade (mama and some babies) crossing all that open expanse of street, but I didn't have time to look for the proper image.
Maybe someone else can do it. :-)
Thanks, Steve and Palms. Peter S 02-24-2007, 02:22 PM Tried a crop and some art history.
Peter palms1 02-25-2007, 12:04 PM Nice crop Peter, well spotted
Palms CJ Swartz 02-25-2007, 01:56 PM Palms -- lovely image -- the old car, the tree, the cobbled road -- great to look at even without Photoshopping.
Pavel -- very nice -- lush look!
Janet -- I'll race you to the tree!
Swampy -- those street lights add real style!
Peter -- I really like this rendition -- lovely!
I found some ducklings with a mama (for Swampy), and did some color range selections, some adaptive equalization, some sketch layers, etc. Peter S 02-25-2007, 02:07 PM Thanks a lot ALL.
BTW Pavel I don't see a WC there anywhere, maybe it got flushed away.

A common danger of using acronims...it was a different wc. CJ Swartz 02-25-2007, 06:17 PM This lovely image works with a lot of techniques. palms1 02-26-2007, 09:05 AM Great work C.J., but the duck and ducklings win it hands down for me
Palms Swampy 02-26-2007, 10:02 AM Awwww. CJ, Wonderful! Thank you! :-) CJ Swartz 02-26-2007, 11:07 AM Ducklings are one of the best "inventions" ever! :)
I don't want to hijack this thread, but if you want to see more ducklings (while working on the Village Car image) -- click here:

Now, back to our regular programming... ;) Steve Conway 02-26-2007, 12:16 PM I hate to think what that car would bring on the restored car market.

How cute that site is, love the chicks/ducklings :bigthmb:
Palms GerryB 02-26-2007, 03:20 PM I made this into an old faded photo. Well done, Gerry. I love it! Care to divulge your workflow? Janet Petty 02-26-2007, 07:46 PM Well done Gerry. The techniques you used made it look very old indeed.
Janet GerryB 02-27-2007, 01:33 AM Thanks for the comments Lon and Janet. Here's how I did it:
1. Duped the background and desaturate.
2. Used Smart Blur (I left it at the suggested settings).
3. Duped the Blurred Image.
4. Used the Poster Edges filter (Edge Thickness: 5, Intensity: 1, Posterization: 5)
6. Highlighted both layers and copy to a document in which I had a picture of old paper (downloaded from www.sxc.hu. Deleted the border around this layer.
7. Changed the blend mode on the Blurred layer to Color Burn, created a layer mask and used the gradient tool (black to transparent) around the edges.
8. Changed the blend mode on the Poster Edges layer to soft light, created a layer mask and used the gradient tool (black to transparent) around the edges.
9. Converted these two layers into smart objects, highlighted both and transformed them to fit the "old paper" layer, and created a group of these two layers.
10. Duped the "old paper" layer, desaturated it and used levels to increase the contrast.
11. Highlighted the highlights of this layer.
12. Created a layer mask for the group I had created. This used the highlights that I had just done to add more fading to the picture.
13. Lowered the opacity of the group to 40% and the desaturated "old paper" layer to 80%.
14.Created a new layer underneath all these layers and filled it with black. palms1 02-27-2007, 02:49 AM wow Gerry :bigthmb: that is brilliant and thanks for the workflow will study it later
