In my humble opinion these are the only restored pictures. All others are beautiful, but more-less artistic expressions. irshgrlkc 03-24-2007, 12:58 AM Here are my favorites...
1. DougColwell: Gorgeous job, still looks like a photograph and is a lot less noisy.
2. Anouck_Vantroy: Close first for this one. Doug's was my number one because the facial expressions seemed a bit more like the original.
3. PhotoB: Love what you achieved on the top two thirds of this image. It looks like the noise in the bottom third was a little bit more resistant to your treatment.
4. Woodenbender: Besides the fact that I love Futurama and am thrilled they are going to make new episodes next year, I think you did a great job restoring this picture. Like PhotoB's though it looks like you had a bit of trouble with the noise towards the bottom of the picture.
5. Soleah: I think this is an excellent restoration and you did a beautiful job. I think I would have put this higher on my list, but I found that some areas looked a little too soft to me. Maybe some sharpening might have helped.
Great job everyone who participated. lilsip 03-24-2007, 04:20 PM 1- Chillin; The sharpest, most photo-like one in the bunch. Great noise reduction without losing detail or looking retouched. Great tonal range.
2- Lurch; Brought out detail and tonal range nicely, has kind of an eerie inner-glow look that I find appealing if not entirely realistic. Only problem is it's just a little soft/smudgy.
3- Soleah; Nice job killing the noise. Good detail, especially in the "missing" face. Great rendering there. Lights are a little blown-out, a little too contrasty.
4- Lorraine; Very similar to Soleah's, again a nice rendering of the child's face and amazing lack of noise. Still a bit contrasty and soft/smudgy at the same time.
5- PhotoB; Nice job bringing out detail and tonality, but still pretty noisy.
Great work everybody! cazubi 03-24-2007, 04:42 PM Here are my votes. Nice work everyone.

A very close thing between the top two I think
Soleahs just edged it with a very slightly less retouched look.
I love lorraines job, especially the rebuilt childs face on the left.
Printmeisters little childs face is good too, more noise at bottom right though.
Out of focus, great little ones face.
Dcolwell good one, just a little too much noise left.
This was the first time I have tried one of the challenges, and I really enjoyed it. I am just a beginner. The whole forum is a great place to be.

In my eyes a restoration project should only enhance what currently exists within the image, to bring out levels of detail lost under the fug of age and substrate. IMHO, I believe a restoration should not involve 'painting-in' pieces of the puzzle (ie the baby's face) when we have no real idea what that piece of the puzzles looked like.
If these were my dead relatives, I'd want to see what little detail there was left, brought to the fore — not some washed over, airbrushed-in other person's idea of what my dead relatives looked like. Airbrushing-out the flaws in a photograph doesn't always make the end result a perfect restoration, you're more likely to airbrush-out the soul and character of that original photograph.
I feel my choices are true to what was required by the rules of this contest. Doug Colwell 03-25-2007, 10:49 PM Quite a range of votes this month.

5. chillin T Paul 03-31-2007, 06:50 PM WOW, what a close contest! We even had a tie for first and had to go to the tie breaker.
Contest FAQs (http://www.retouchpro.com/forums/contests/13446-contest-faqs.html)What happens in a tie for first?
The tie breaker is determined by who has the most first place votes. If it is a tie again, then we will look at who has the most second place votes and so on until a winner is determined.
And the winner is....Soleah!
