I think I was on this forum when somebody mentioned how to make a sparkle or starlight. There was a link to this image...
anyway I can't find the link or the thread to save my soul... Does anybody know how to make something like this?
It makes a perfect brush sparkle and I would like to make some like it.

Why not just make the brush from what you provided in the attached file? You can rotate and adjust the size and make several.

Ant: yeah, I already made the brushs out of the image and others...I just wanted to try making others but my attemps lacked in the wispyness department.

You see how subtle it is how fades off straight out...

maybe apply a radial blur to your existing pattern?

Bert Monroy had an excellent tip on this very thing in one of his Tutorial (http://revision3.com/pixelperfect/shadow)

The tip comes at the very end of the turotial when he adds some sparkles to the tutorial project. Small white soft brush, then in the brushs palette he turuned on FADE.

I am going to tell you how I did it no problem but just know that there are people on here much better than I am and speedier as well. I am old school and still have the smell of fixer on my hands. Although I do a lot of photoshop work and teaching at college level I will be the first to admit that I suck at shortcuts, keystrokes etc... I work in a tedious way trying to avoid repetition in patterns and such. Those starbursts are what I sometimes add to a graffiti text when I need to create one but here is all it is.

>Hard, round brush (color of your choice) about a size 5, adjust as needed.
>Smudge tool > Hard brush > Click once in center of the dot created by the original paint brush.
>Move away form your click in a straight line then shift click. This should draw a smudge in a straight line from first point to second. I adjust the length of the smudge by using the fade tool in the brush pallet. I do several with one fade distance then change it to a higher or lower number for shorter and longer strokes. You can adjust the opacity by using the setting on the smudge tool but I prefer to complete the starburst, duplicate that layer, rotate under free transform and adjust the opacity of the new layer. Sometimes I use a little diffused glow to fade out the tips of the bursts, sometimes I use the swirl filter to give it that little twist. Like I said this is the long way around I am sure but no two of my bursts are the same. Hope it helped.
