Enclosed is a picture I took in the Fall and a photo I created this week with Painter. I definitely can see potential learning Painter (still so much to learn with Paint Shop Pro!)
To create this pic is nothing special (umm I remember Nancy once saying that and to the life of me I had no idea how the effect was created)
But...
I used levels..
Boosted the saturation
used unsharpen mask
a little dodge and burn...
then I went to painter
and played with the auto painter feature as I mentioned in a previous post.

Consider applying the effect 2-3 times on separate copies of the of the original layer, using a different brush size setting each time. Then combine the layers using layer masks to avoid the same-brush-used-throughout look which is a dead give away it was auto-generated.
The overall look is very appealing. Keep having fun experimenting.

Thanks..if you find any "free" paint tutorial videos out there let me know.
Of the one's you've bought, which ones are high on your list?
I will try the layer recommendation.

I will try the layer recommendation.I have been meaning to teply to that question in the other thread, but have not gotten around to it... In a nutshell, no freebees that I know of.
Jeremy Sutton's DVD offerings are quite good, albeit spendy. Content is technique-specific, not a whole lot on how to use all of Painter's bells & whistles.
Marilyn Sholin's Paint Outside the Frame forum is a great resource for Painter users of all skill levels, but there is annual fee.

Still football....still painter....Glad to see you're still experimenting.
Consider boosting the saturation a whole bunch. To me doing something of that nature helps further distinguish a photo from a "painting."
Here's an example...
1. The colors in the original are a little drab.
2. . Duplicate BG in Elements or Photoshop
. Desaturate the duplicated layer
. Apply Find Edges
. Change blend mode from Normal to Overlay
. Duplicate the top layer
. Flatten, save
3. Open in Painter and go to town.
I cloned the original and used the Big_wet_lucious variant from Jeremy Faves 2 collection. I got this and other cool brushes from the CD that accompanies his Painter IX Creativity book.
4. Open again in Photoshop, sharpen a little, apply Hue/Saturation and Selective Color adjustments to further mess with the colors.
The point is in my opinion in many cases more vibrant colors can make the final result look a lot less photo-like.

See updated post above for an example of what I mean on juicing up the colors.
