The subject of this (now closed) challenge, Julia, died unexpectedly in March 2007. She was survived by her children, 3-year-old Andrew and 9-month-old Aurora.

The creations in this thread were submitted at the request of RetouchPRO member Janet Petty, a close friend of Julia's family. Janet wanted to create a memorial of Julia for the children.

Very sorry for the family and their loss Danny. May do a few later, but thought I would start things off with a wc b/w sketch. :)

I'm having a problem downloading the files. I'm not getting a downloaded .TIF file, I'm getting a QuickTime movie file. ?

Swampy do a right click and "save link as" that should get you going.

Impasto this time. Some mods to the Impressionist Vegetable Paint preset. Some smudging and such too. :)

I got the quick time movie also...a right click didn't give me a tiff option...only gave me a PRO Save As Source, PRO Save as quick time... which I said I didn't want to buy quick time. Must be doing something wrong.

On the page with the image links, RIGHT-CLICK the image link and you should get the option to SAVE TARGET AS. This will let you save the image and bypass the Quick-Time movie.

Sorry for the loss....my prayers are with them. I meant to put the little boy in the picture but i ran out of time...sorry. Hope you like it..Comments are welcome!!

Softened the babies highlites. Attempted to make the bubbles more pronounced, cropped, blurred, whitened eyes a little, put a little smile on the baby. A cutie.

I'm sorry some of you are having trouble downloading the pictures. I was hoping that by posting them on this site at a higher resolution that it would actually be easier. Those who have mentioned right clicking on the image name and selecting save target as or save as shouldn't have any trouble. I used this site for my students. They didn't have any problem saving their pictures by the right click method.

Very sorry for the family's loss, Danny. Please send my condolences. I've downloaded the images and will try my hand at them early in the week. It's very sad for such young children to lose their mother - and not so young children also. They are a beautiful family.

Danny I would like to offer to print the image that is selected on canvas or watercolor paper.I would need the file at least 200 dpi at whatever size the print or prints were.I can spray them and they would last for generations.

I must say that I'm very moved by the generous response to this thread. It is heartening to see the compassion and sympathy in your postings. Thank you all so very much for participating.

I have already contacted some of you for your high resolution renderings and will be following up with the remaining ones in a day or two. I hope to have them all printed and then put them in an album for the children to have in later years.

Again, thank you all so very much for your support and your kind thoughts and prayers for the family. They have needed all they can get.

I missed the April 30 closing date for this Special Challenge, so am posting my efforts here - along with my condolences to Julia's family, especially to young Andrew and Aurora.

I was browsing RetouchPro (amazingly, a year since the last time) and read about Julia and wanted to contribute.

These images were created from scratch - painted in Photoshop with reference to the family shots; grayscale then coloured. I hope they can be of some use to the family.

I have received the higher resolution pictures from almost everyone. They look fantastic at the higher resolution. The album for the family is almost completed. Thanks to each of you for your time, your talents, and your sympathy.

A quick update: The family is slowly returning to a semblance of normality with the children's grandparents stepping up the plate to care for them while Dad works and tries to rebuild his life.

This tragedy has made me more aware of the blessings in my own life and more aware of the suffering and sorrow in others lives, and more willing to help those who need it. I hope that in some small way each of you has been touched and will be just as aware in your own lives.

Again, thank you all for your contributions and for your sympathy.
