Hi Folks. Sometimes I have to blend wall colors and because of lighting, stains, hot spots, this can get tricky in order to get a uniform look. Sometimes there is cloning, copy and paste, airbrush.etc. Here is one example.

There are times when everything ends up a mess and matchup doesn't blend correctly. Does anyone here have any tips to get uniform look without a lot of cloning or a better way to get reuslts?

Thanks for your help. Steve

Not exactly sure what you are trying to achieve but I took two approaches.

The first (wall-a) was to select the wall and use Filter->Blur->Average. Seems too easy and affects the color. You can them use a gradient to tone as required.

The second (wall-b) was done by converting the image to Lab mode and copying the Lightness channel to the clipboard and then converting back to RGB and pasting the Lighness channel as a new layer. Invert this layer and use Luminosity blending mode. Adjust opacity as required. In this case it was 28%. This retains the original colors. If the results are too dark, you can put a Levels Adjustment Layer on top.

Thanks Duayne for your technique. LAB is something I never thought of. I think that is something I can look into. The only thing I noticed was a greenish area up in the right hand corner, but other than that, it definitely looked more uniform.

See, as you know, rooms have gradients and transparencies because the light and shadows are hitting different areas with different shades of color like the gray scale. That's why it can be so tough to clean it up and get it more balanced. Sometimes to clone, you have to check pixels and try to match up at 800%. The eye plays funny trix on your monitor after hours of retouching.
