FWIW, if you use a higher radius, you can eliminate a lot of the blotchiness in his example - to scale - I'd say he's using a radius of about 5, whereas 15 gives a much smoother result - you can skip most of the airbrushing. ( May vary, depending on the size of image you cut out of the pdf)

I actually just ordered and received that book last week. There are some techniques I hadn't known about in there, and a few more creative ones, too...BUT overall, I am actually a bit disappointed with the retouching chapter. Is basically just talks abou surface blur with a bit of dodge/burn. I think he could have touched on a couple more techniques.

I just ordered it, and have it already home. i confrim with mellyrose, he has only talked about the simple tings about retouching skin, surface blur etc. but over all its a great book! and he explain erything very good about 'how to do'.
