May 07 Contest- Sketch to Photo
May brings quite the new challenge (thanks to the creative mind of Doug Nelson).

We've had a ton of challenges and contests about turning photos into sketches. How about a contest to turn a sketch into a photo? The "art director" has sketched out the photo they want, now it's the retoucher/compositer's job to make it. It's up to you to get (or make) the components, but take care that no copyrighted photos are used. The final result should pass for an actual photo.

Prize: NuLOOQ navigator (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/US/EN,CRID=2769,CONTENTID=12771).

It's not a mouse, but it could be your mouse´s best friend!

Put your other hand to good use; NuLOOQ navigator gives you a powerful new way to interact with your application. Design, create, edit or just navigate — put the fun back on your desktop! The NuLOOQ navigator boldly goes where no device has gone before: to the other hand

• Adjust brush size in one pixel increments in Adobe® Photoshop® CS2 without ever moving a slider or clicking on a shortcut key
• Fine-tune font attributes such as leading, tracking and more in Adobe InDesign® CS2 without using the option bar
• Scroll and zoom your documents, spreadsheets, digital pictures or more with the smallest movement of the gray ring
• Scrub timelines in Final Cut Pro® or iMovie quickly or slowly
• Change volume or music tracks in iTunes™ quickly while it runs in the background
• And more…NuLOOQ navigator is user configurable for virtually any application!

THE RULES:

1. Contest will run from 1 May to 24 May 2007. Deadline for entries is 6pm EDT.

2. I will not answer questions concerning the rules. Interpretation of the rules is as important as execution.

3. Tasks:

* Turn the provided sketch into a photo.
* Final image must be exactly 800 pixels wide and 600 pixels high.
4. When you submit your entry put your username in the filename (ie: tpaul.jpg). This is so users can save the images to a local directory and remember who did what--important when it comes time to vote.

5. Post your entries to this thread. Links will not be accepted. Please restrict your comments, questions or discussion to the May 07 Contest Discussion thread. Inappropriately placed posts will be deleted.

6. Only one entry per person. You can change your entry up to the deadline.

7. Voting will run from 25 May to 31 May 2007. Only those with entries may vote.

8. Voting:
* Submit the 5 best entries (by artist name) in order, starting with your favorite.
* You cannot vote for your own image.
* Once you have voted, you cannot change your votes.

Finally, please remember that this is a friendly contest and suppose to be a learning experience. Tips and suggestions to help others are highly encouraged. Also please don’t limit your comments to just the top 5 when you vote. Most members are eager for feedback about their images, so remember to help each other out.

This contest is the best so far. I had a great time with my composition and am enjoying looking at everyone else's interpretations.

OK people be nice, I have not been participating in a long time
This is one of the nicest and not so simple as it would appear. I used zillion photos from Flickr.com mainly all with the Creative Commons license.
Will be looking for any kind of input :D thanks.

Here is my submission. I used pictures that my partner and I took with our camera. I enjoyed going out to get the images as much as putting them all together.

After a suggestion from Martha I have resubmitted my entry. thank you Martha for your suggestion.

I wasn't quite happy with what I had done so had another go at it.

Wow what a challenge to keep it looking like a photo. Some 30 odd layers later this is my entry.

There were some wonderful entries and close voting that resulted in a tie for first that had to go to a tiebreaker (http://www.retouchpro.com/forums/contests/13446-contest-faqs.html#post120860).

And the winner is.....ScubaMargie!

Prize: NuLOOQ navigator (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/US/EN,CRID=2769,CONTENTID=12771).
