Hi Everybody...... I don't know if this goes here or not, but here goes....

My Aunt sent a DVD that she'd made from some VCR tapes...... I can watch the video on my computer using Windows Media Player...... I've tried to take a screen shot using the following methods:

Ctrl + Print Screen
Ctrl + I
Print Screen

These work in that I'm able to paste them over into Photoshop CS2 but, whenever I try to edit them, they turn black.

Also, when I drag the shot across the screen in Photoshop, it moves as if I've captured the entire video in one screen shot.....

I've also reduced my computer's acceleration to 'None' (something about 2D vs. 3D?) but that didn't work either......

Can someone help...... I will be eternally grateful and name my first child after you (he's 30 but owes me big time with that whole birthing thing....)

You need a screencap app that can capture directx. Try hypersnap or snagit.

My suggestion would be to use VLC Player (www.videolan.org) which plays almost all media formats. The other great feature is that it allows taking snapshot of the movie being played (Video > Snapshot) and that works great. The snapshots are by default placed in your My Pictures folder (assuming WinXP).

Hope this helps :)

Thanks, pranavy..... I just finished writing to you in the other post! I'm going to take a look at the site you linked to (thank you for that) since this was so confusing to me.

I did buy one of the programs that Doug mentioned called Snaggit which does capture an editable screen shot, but I'm not as savy as Doug and it seems I 'accidentally' capture the shot without really knowing how and without knowing if I could make it better.

The program you're talking about sounds like I might be able to better predict what I'm getting.....

Thanks so much for your help!

Just to add another vote for VLC. It's free and plays everything, I don't use anything else.
