Hey guys!

Just needed help with one question. How do I make a shadow like the one in this picture?

evidently I made this, but I assume I was not in the best "state of mind" at the time, because I don't remember making it, or how to make it. I do more retouching than graphics so I'm kind of having trouble. Would I have to select each corner, and do a shadow one by one or...?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Looks like you made a corner piece in white....added a drop shadow to that....and then triplicated it and rotated the pieces into place.

I see a faint background shadow and one coming from the arm. Exactly with which shadow do you want help? Looking at the post above, do you mean the corner edge shadows at the white corners of the picture?

You could try to use Andromeda's Shadow filter, by creating multiple shadows from multiple selections.

yeah, i mean the shadows at the corner of the image

This is what I came up with. Put the shadow on another layer and took out what I didn't need to make the corners and then adjusted the Bright/Cont. to get the lighter shadow. This works in a way, but it is not the best work flow to accomplish what you want. I believe another poster indicated that a drop shadow had been applied to a corner piece and then duplicated. That would probably be the best way. I tried something like that, but didn't like the results I got.

Ok, here is what i did.

pretending i started with the image full frame (ie, no white border)....I copied the image to a new canvas with a transparent background.
1: I used the select tool to create a corner...one vertical, hold shift, one horizontal...which gave me an upside down L
2: Create new layer, fill selection with white
3: Line up "L" with corner
4: Create another new layer
5: with the polygonal lasso, I started my selection at the top of the corner, worked my way down the side, gradualy moving closer to the border
6: click, diagonal line up the right....resume selection at right part of top "L"
7: gradually increase height to meet the top left corner
8: Fill selection with greyish color
9: adjust opacity of layer to thin it out
10: apply slight gaussian blur to layer to simulate drop shadow effect
11: smooth out edges if needed with eraser.
12: Enjoy :-)
