Somewhere I had seen a tutorial on how to create a signature that has no color itself but merely looks like a etched-glass letters over the layer below.

What I'm trying to do is to create a signature logo layer that I can copy to any
image which will use the colors of the layer below.

Thanks in advance for any leads on where to find a tutoral on this.

Here I just added a black text layer and applied the Frosted Glass style preset. I'm sure you can further customize it.

If you make your signature in 50% Gray and set the layer to Overlay mode, you should get the effect you want. Play with the transparency also. This would be in Photoshop, but may well work in Paint Shop Pro

Make your text white.
Apply a bevel layer style.
On the layer with the text, reduce the _Fill_ opacity to 0%.

Cool tutorial link Chillin. You can also use a custom style to create the effect. I used the one here (http://www.pencilpixels.com/html/free.html). :)
