Palms if you read this I'd love to see one of your smudges I think the hair would come out great.
Swampy how about one of your pattern stamp masterpieces
Anyway everyone just enjoy doing any style you wish.
Peter lkroll 05-23-2007, 08:12 PM My poor mouse finger. Anyway, I did use your original images (higher quality the better in my book). I used Xero's Pastellize filter for the outlines. Then I used Mehdi's Fine Threshold filter to make it dark. I then added a whole lot of strokes mainly to fill in the voids in the hair. I then set the result of the layer to Value (yes all in GIMP) and did some Xero Supersmooth filtering on the base layer. Flattened and did some additional color enhancements. Here (http://img45.imageshack.us/img45/3139/uc49wmre2174xf1he7.jpg)'s the full high quality hi-res version. :) Kraellin 05-23-2007, 11:40 PM nice ones, danny, lk.
and like danny said, my attempt at something: admirer 05-24-2007, 06:33 AM Gave it a quick go. I think it deserves a 40's pinup style look. Sort of works. palms1 05-24-2007, 08:57 AM Palms if you read this I'd love to see one of your smudges I think the hair would come out great.
Peter

Palms Steve Conway 05-24-2007, 02:27 PM A combination of sketch, paint, and some color adjustments thrown in. One of my "sweep the hard drive" attempts.
Steve C. Peter S 05-24-2007, 03:52 PM lkroll - I was thinking of you when I put the link there, glad you used it, it looks good.
Craig - nice idea to crop, is that one of your filter forge ones. BTW I have'nt changed my name to Danny yet:grin:
Admirer - Well sort of works for me I like smooth.

Palms - Speak to me:bawling:
Steve - a good mixture there nice detail to the hair.
Well done all, it just shows me a need more practice at this stuff. Kraellin 05-24-2007, 10:43 PM oops! sorry peter. i'm so used to danny starting these that i missed it.
it started with a filterforge filter, northershadow's, 'a watercolor painting'. great filter. then took it back into Paint Shop Pro for some work. Kraellin 05-24-2007, 10:44 PM i love yours, palms! :) palms1 05-25-2007, 06:24 AM Palms - Speak to me:bawling:

Have you watched Lisa's video on smudging ? if not take a look there is a link working here thread #46
http://www.nikoncafe.com/vforums/showthread.php?t=84461&page=5
it takes a little while to load but worth it ( not for dial up ) I cant find a working link for the brush's but thats not really a worry it is very rare i use them mainly i use linda's brushes and sarsa's brushes but each to there own ! ! ( should you want them pm me your email addy and i will send them )
then practice practice practice but be selective in your photo's less detail is best
Palms palms1 05-25-2007, 06:26 AM i love yours, palms! :)
Thank you Craig and i mean that thank you for your support while i have been learning this technique it has kept me going :)

PamSav 05-29-2007, 02:14 PM Just passing through after a long absence and couldn't resist painting this beautiful portrait. Lots of lovely submissions of her already, here's mine. Swampy 05-29-2007, 02:17 PM Lovely, Pam! Missed you around here. Welcome back! Peter S 05-29-2007, 03:19 PM Pam
That is VERY nice, you should not be such a stranger round here.
Peter PamSav 05-30-2007, 03:35 PM Thanks :) I really like how it turned out, especially the eyes. Photomaster 05-31-2007, 02:06 PM Some really nice work here. Pam, terrific job!
Thought I'd take a different approach and create an old movie poster. Some Snap Art filters, blending layers, texture, noise, color enhancement in Photoshop. Painted with Wet Soft Acrylic brush in Painter. Some sharpening and text added in Photoshop. Swampy 05-31-2007, 02:37 PM Wonderful, PM!! She does have a retro look to start with so the vintage poster is perfect! GOLDCOIN 06-29-2007, 09:40 PM Thanks, Peter... for posting this lovely lady's photo
Was looking for a subject to try for smudging with Painter's brushes.. this is what I finished up with ...

Absolutely wonderful work.
I wondered if applying Curves to the hair area would bring out more highlights, so I tried doing that with very favorable results. I liked it even more. :) Fox54Black 07-28-2007, 02:35 PM Also went for the illustrated look here, lots of fun:). Some great results from everyone else here too! sylvia1065 08-03-2007, 10:55 AM I decided to go for an oil painting look.

Sylvia:
Is this based on one of your tutorials? If so, which one? sylvia1065 08-03-2007, 07:58 PM Yes, Danny, it's the tutorial N° 15.
Sylvia MadChapelier 08-08-2007, 07:47 AM The only real filter I used on this one is Gaussian blur. Kraellin 08-08-2007, 08:16 PM very nice, pam. love the soft look there.
had another go at this one, this time with a filter forge filter, one of my own making. | |
