View Full Version : Fun with Eye Shadow

I've been asking my wife how to apply make-up. She thinks I've gone over the edge! Anyway, I think this digital makeup thing is kinda fun, so I'm tossing it out there for those who may want to play.

I used three paths for each eye. One path followed the fold just above the eye lashes. I stroked the path with a soft black brush, blurred, and adjusted opacity to taste. The second path was above the first, but below the eyebrow. I used a larger brush and stroked with a pastel green. I blurred the layer and set it to color mode. The third path was for the eye liner. Small black brush, blur, set a fairly low opacity.

Cheers

Great tip, JH! And well done. I can't wear eye makeup because it always gets in my contact lenses and drives me nuts.

Just noticed a fantastic little tutorial on eyelashes. Here's my first attempt with one of the brushes included in the tutorial.

A tip of the hat to the author, Ruud van Doorn.

I'm no pro, but I vote for green.

Definitely brown. Green looks like those terrible tacky colored contacts some people wear.

Eye shadow - not usually my domain.

Had to try though.

Selected the relevent areas in quick mask with a very soft brush.
new layer via copy the a gradiant map adjustment layer.
Could have chosen any gradient but this looked OK to me.
Oh yeah it was very quick as well.

Excellent version, CathyH. I see that you dodged the lower left on each iris -- I'm making a mental note!

I'm really still very new to Photoshop (using CS3 and love it!) Can anyone recommend a tutorial on how to do the eyeshadow like shown here? Fabulous job by the way CathyH!!

Thanks for the complement, jhpearce, Dave, and mom22seans.
I did dodge the lower left hand corners and I also burned the outer edge of the iris.
Here is a link to a tutorial that show how to apply the make up.

Ok, here's my first attempt ... touched up the rest of it quite a bit also trying not to make it look too overly done... (hoping I do the attachments correctly!...)

One more, just for the heck of it. I added lashes on the bottom, eyeliner, and three layers of eye shadow (black, yellowish, greenish). Not crazy about my color choices for the eye shadow, but I'm a bit... umm... inexperienced in such matters.

Nice job! I'm having a hard time getting the blending down (can't get my own make up to blend either! LOL)

I do have one other quick question though. Using the tutorial CathyH recommended, when I input the same values for the color that the tutorial suggests, I get a different color & color #. Is this because I'm using CS3 Extended? Or am I doing something else wrong? I do have my layer mode set to "color" but I can never quite get the hue I'm going for. I tried switching Color Libraries also... anyone know how to set that back to which ever one the default was?

Not sure about your color values, but I know that I've mistakenly put RGB values into the CMYK or HSB input boxes. When I'm copying a color, I like to use the hex value which goes into the bottom # box. So, using the tutorial as an example, try plugging-in 00448f as the hex value and you should see a nice blue.
