well, this is a tough one! I have this portrait it's light and very nice! BUT, I want to get a more darker feel to it...I have tried burn and adding black to different layers, but it seems to get a bit too fake!

So I'm wondering if any of you nice people on RetouchPRO is having the knowledge and the "know how" to "show me"...haha...

please help...

here is the picture:

And here is the idea on what I really want...

Try doing a selective color-Relative-Midtones... Slide the black slider to the right.

Thanks...but....
is there any sliders named midtones there or do you mean the colours that lies within the midtones?

The Selective Color dialog defaults to RED... Pop up the menu and choose Midtones (or whatever color you want to darken)

how about this? managed to work out some contrast and adding a vignett effect, then darkening with a dark filter...does this look fake to you? I think it looks realistic...

You can pull downward on a Curve adjustment layer or
You can copy the layer and set blending mode to Multiply and set different opacities.
If the dress gets too dark, you can mask part of it out from the effect.

Hi i dont know if this is what you are after.
I used 3 adjustment layers of progressive steep curves then selectivly removed what i did not want each one to effect in the mask. finally removed a little saturation.

Is this what you had in mind? If so, let me know and I'll tell ya what I did (more or less).

Did you try to use multiply with a layer mask?

Hi Gerry,

I mostly lowered contrast as I darkened to preserve detail.

Use one of the other pictures to extract the tone with match color.
I run some colors adjustments using PictoColor plug in.
I have applied another plug in called Photolight & the usual a dodge & burn technique.

Have you tried using Shadow/Highlight to darken the image, it may get you somewhere close to what you want.
It will darken
It will colour correct (I see you have desaturated slightly)
And you can adjust midtones as you were asking.

It could be a start for you.???

having looked at the other image I'd say you should look into PWL and mess around with colour layers and opacity

well, A LOT of answer here...I really appreciate you guys being there for me when I ask! Really nice! Thanks a alot!

When going trough the pictures here I really like the idea of some of them, but they really look somewhat fake! Myabe mine isn't that good either! but something in that area is close!

admirer: It's ok, the contrast is abit to high...

LonK: This looks almost like the effect, but the contrast is slightly high there...It reminds abit of Dave hill effect...

graphics: it's too red, the effect close up looks to fake for my taste...sorry... :(

PanPan: some weird colors coming here...maybe try working with contrast or color balance to get a darker feel..

chillin: background is a bit light...color banding on the wall behind model...

berwin: too much effect...it looks fake, I'm afraid...I get some 70's feel over the outcome...not a bad thing though...

handmadegod: Looks nice, the lower part is too dark...the face needs abit ouf touching up...

schlinky: overall feel is good too light for my intention...the frameing is very good though! I will try out aversion on my own! thanks for idea!

elohssa: Wow, total makeover...too fake for my taste...nice experimental version!

PeterS: have tried every level in H/S, but It always looks fake and tempered with...and the fac egets abit grey...

RAVEN: version 2 looks good...a bit more retouching to the face and the light!

schlinky: ab etter version this...a bit flat in contrast again :(

thank you everyone for trying this out! I have looked on your versions and got really inspired to try again :D

cheers
