I have just joined this group, and look forward to learning and sharing. I am one of the editors of The Sea Chest, journal of the Puget Sound Maritime Historical Society, and spend much time optimizing old photos from a variety of sources for illustrating articles for publication in our journal. I use Photoshop 5.5. In my spare time (!) I also am working on my massive collection of photos (family, personal and travel) taken over the years. I no longer use my home darkroom as I go digital. I will probably lurk here for awhile to get my bearings with this group. Hopefully, there are others here who still use PS 5.5. I am by no means an expert, but am learning as I go along, and so far have found it adequate for the kind of restoration I am doing.

Welcome to Retouch Pro!
PS5.5 can do a lot but PS has come many light years since 5.5 with respect to more sophisticated tools designed to make your work go a lot faster. If you plan to spend a lot of time at it, it may well be worth your while to upgrade. I would recommend you download the 30 trial version of CS3 and check it out.
