Anyone fancy a shot at this to give me a few ideas?
It's my sisters baby girl at about 6 months old.

cloned, bit of smudging, bit of texture then framed.
A bit lacking in the 'ideas' department but I enjoyed 'painting' the doll.

Like that Gilbert.....I'd thought of doing a "smudge" myself.

Super Peter! Really like that technique. Photoshop built-ins or a plugin?

Good question, err shall I answer it????
Okay seeing as you asked so nicely.
Could all be done with Photoshop.
Used noise reduction very heavily to really smooth it out. Blurred with the blur brush, some parts of the face to further smooth out anything left over.
Duped and ran the Torn edges plugin, then faded the opacity of this layer to bring some colour back in the pic. Overlaid a new layer with a half tone pattern and faded the opacity slightly.
Some slight colour adjustments to finish.

Hope this is clear.

Wow! Didn't expect you to give away all your secrets. But many thanks. I might give it a try soon. Wish there was a plugin that would do that.

Thanks for the good detailed info.

Great pic, John... thanks for letting us play.

After painting over background and foreground areas to simplify things a bit I used the Impressionist plugin to create several layers and combined them with layer masks.

The Impressionist styles used a brush Trimoon (www.Trimoon.com (http://www.Trimoon.com)) made available awhile back called "James Brown," which I like a lot.

For the texture effect I used Photoshop's Angled Strokes filter applied to a layer rendered by Conte Crayon. Finished off with some sharpening, Levels and added saturation.

Some nice niece stuff on here, thanks all.....and thankyou (Danny?) for changeing the title. I think I will have something worth including in a while (I'm working on it) shortly.

I'm sure she'll love it.

Perhaps the whites of the eyes could be toned down just a tad, they kind of hit you a bit. :)

Darker eyes....yea I see what you mean.....something like this Gary.

Yes, I think that works better for me.

Obviously when someone has such big blue eyes it's gonna be impossible to prevent them from totally dominating the picture, but by toning them down a touch it allows you to see everything else.
