Voting Thread for June 2007 Photo Competition

Voting -- Entries in May 2007 Photo Assignment: "Wheel"

You may view the entries here: http://www.pbase.com/shadepuppy/june_competition_retouchpro

This month we are trying something new - the voting thread is open for voting by all RetouchPro members.

Post your choices (in this thread) for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd by listing the member's name. If you want to explain your reasons, please do -- we all like to hear how people respond to our images. Since there are no trophies for this competition, our real prize is reading that our photo caught your attention and perhaps even your admiration.

Vote for the 3 best entries in order.
Votes will be weighted to give greater weight to First Place votes than to Second and greater weight to Second than to Third place votes. When you place a vote for First Place, that entry will receive three (3) points; when you place a vote for Second, that entry will receive two (2) points, and a vote for Third Place will receive one (1) point.

Example Vote:
Pick the top 3 entries and list in order...

1. Entry X (First Place -- 3 points)
2. Entry A (Second Place -- 2 point)
3. Entry C (Third Place -- 1 point)

This voting thread is now open and will close Friday June 29th at midnight (PDT). The winner will be notified and will choose the subject for the July competition.

I enjoyed this contest, it did what was intended, I took my camera out and took pictures. Looking at stuff from different angles.
Good job everyone.

1. Janet Petty - I like the way the background and forground work together.
2. SwampDonkey - Nice and simple
3. Mysticalone - I like the bright colors. Maybe a closer crop would have giving it some more interest.

1. SwampDonkey - graphicly interesting and effectively conveys theme
2. Janet Petty - would benefit from a shallower depth of field but 2nd is good.
3. Sweetlight - iffy on whether or not it fits the theme, but at least it's interesting - although a tad garish for my taste.

1. ScubaMargie - That is one BIG wheel. I like the perspective, even though the fence detracts.
2. SwampDonkey - Unusual spokes and a great effect.
3. Janet Petty - Great B&W, like the perspective, and I just like old things anyway.

1: Mystical One - I love the vivid colours and the positioning of the wheel in the photo.
2: SwampDonkey - Cool spokes and nice shot.
3: Sweetlight - I like this because it is a different interpretation of the wheel.

1: Janet Petty - Good control of contrast. Detail in the shadows and no blown out highlights.
2: Mystical One - Good composition and colours but could do with a little cropping and some curves work to really make it stand out.
3: Sweetlight - A tenuous link to the theme but a novel perspective all the same

My votes:

1st - SwampDonkey - I really love this! Simple but beautiful subject / lighting shows separation from background / well executed. I enjoy looking at each part of it and at the whole of it.

2nd - MysticalOne - Different perspective, good color contrast, well executed - exposure/lighting/focus.

3rd - Janet Petty - Interesting perspective, subject fills frame.
