Someone told me that with my Canon XT I could hook my cable to USB then to camera and preview pictures as I shot them like in a studio type setting. Kinda of an instant proofing. In the past I have just downloaded the pics to my image software and proofed them there but now I'm being told it will do it after every shot and appear on computer monitor instantly. Anyone know how this is accomplished?

Sounds like tethered shooting. There's a couple of good discussions about it here. Use search for "tethered".

wi-fi? It says in the manual for my Nikon P2 that I could do that, depends on how far you are from pc.

Well I checked out my manual and indeed it says I can do as I have asked about. It's called EOS Capture. All you do is hook up to your camera to pc via USB cable and a box will appear with choices and just click on capture images. Shoot a picture and it appears on the screen. Many options after that to explore but that's the answer to my question.
