Really there's too many good Rock bands from the 70s and 80s, I could go on for ages.

The real question should have been, anyone got the names of any modern bands who can come even close to them ?

If so I'd love to hear them, because most of the modern Rock entries I've heard are but pale imitations.

Gary i asked my hubby what he thought ( big heavy rock fan ) but he couldnt come up with any new names of the same style (times have moved on ) Although we both love The Killers, and he likes the Keiser Chiefs
did you watch any of Glastonbury ? He highly rated The Who's stint and of course no better way to look out for new bands

Oh, and an old band from Yorkshire.....Saxon.
One of who's members was born and still lives just around the corner from me in Mexborough in an old semi, goes in my local pub, and nobody takes one blind bit of notice unless it's to say "how yer goin on?"....(nobody takes any notice of celebs round here  )

Thank you for your list pixelzombie will pass it on

Now if you have time take a look/listen to this video on Youtube it is The Killers doing a cover of Dire straits's Romeo and Juliet. Personaly i think it is great and shows the new can be almost as good as the old.( And yes there is only one Mark Knopfler )

you're more than welcome, Korn might be a bit heavy for most classic rock fans but they do make some good music...i suggest you start with Godsmack as they mix it up quite well...Dream Theater is a proggresive rock band, whereas the Tea Party combines rock with a world sound, i luv the way they combine middle eastern instruments within a rock context....Badlands is a blues based rock band.....Tool is all over the place, they remind me of a modern day pink floyd at times, albeit somewhat heavier and Disturbed truly has that modern rock sound...

Sounds good.

Fraid I'm gonna have to go the old fashioned way and buy a few albums, my connection isn't up to DLing tracks (I'm out in the sticks a bit and the 21st Century has passed us by).

May be a while before I can let you know how I found them.

try pandora for some great classic rock listening. punch in:

Credence Clearwater Revival
Chicago
Yes
Pete Seeger
Frank Zappa
Janis Joplin
Inna Godda Da Vida (yes, you can punch in the song titles too)

and so many more. man, what a great era for music!

and gary, Deep Purple; 'Hush' was one of my favorites :)

and that's just the rock stuff. there were some great pop and folk back then too.
