Hi all,

I shot this image about a year ago now, did some work to it initially, and then forgot about it. I took two exposures and combined them, one for the sky, one for the truck and foreground. I've gone back in and done some editing to the photo, and have a few versions of it now, below is maybe my preferred version, a colored black and white.

Not too sure why but I really want the image to work, it was shot in my favorite part of New Zealand, Central Otago, where I try to spend a few weeks every winter, an amazing part of the country.

Anyway, I'm currently uploading a large layered version of the image in the hope that some of you can download it and have a play around, and give me some ideas, as soon as its up, I'll post again with a link, I look forward to some inspiration, cheers Shaun.

Edit: Below is the link to the layered Tiff file.

Please feel free to download, edit and post back your results, much appreciated.

My take on your truck..
I tried to make it the focal point..

PS
I Like the photography at: http://www.shaundigital.com/ so this interpretation may be a lil extreme

Thanks for taking the time Granny, but your vignette is a bit to strong for my liking, although I don't mind spending the time and doing a lot of work on an image in Photoshop, I prefer to keep the effects subtle so the original image isn't lost.

Also cheers for the comments on the website, I haven't shot much over the last few months so content is lacking, but I've got a few shoots coming up so keep an eye on it, cheers Shaun.

Two versions here, 1 is using a heavy high pass filter on a copy and setting it to overlay mode the other is using the equalize command on a copy and setting it to overlay blending and dropping the opacity to around 50%

Wonderful picture, Shaun... (Note to others: 86MB download, so be patient.)

I duplicated some of the channels and saved them as layers, then tried different blend modes to get a more contrasty look. (I added 'hide all' layer masks to the layers, then airbrushed white in the areas I wanted to reveal.) The final sepia step (via Hue/Saturation (x) colorize Adjustment layer) might have some appeal.

Thanks for the opportunity to play. Good luck on your project.

Hi Cass,

I quite like the effect of the equalize version, basically adding a lot of contrast, I'm gonna have a play round with the image today and see if I can make any improvements, will have a look at using equalize.

I did some adjustments in the tif. + I’ve ran “Mike W's 3D Painter” action on it.

Inserted mine (see 2 post above) from a duplicate thread which I deleted. (No need for the same thread in multiple forums.)

Tried to stick with your original concept this time.. created a HDR by using the original+multiply+screen copies... used it as new background.. to bring out the undercarriage.. then toned down the windshield..

Thanks for clearing that up, my post seemed to fit into both categories and was a bit slow to get responses at first in this one, so I reposted. Danny your High Contrast/Sepia version is very nice, really helps to emphasize the unique sky and ages the image well. Granny I much prefer your second attempt over your first, I did originally tone down the window and recolor it to match, but it may still be a bit bright?

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to put there skills into the image, I've decided my finished version does need more contrast and maybe bringing the saturation back up a bit helps to age the truck, but I may also play around with just a full black and White image too.

Look forward to seeing more edits, so far there have been 35 downloads of the file, I hope I left it in an easily editable state, with all the necessary layers?

Hi there, sorry i have nothing to show but merely something to try. I have found that adding life to shadows add a colour balance adjustment layer and add around 20% blue and 20% Cyan and add another layer for highlights 20% red and 20% yellow. This seems to make the image tones jump out at you. I havent down loaded you image but this works best on black and white photos, as they are on layers you can always change the opacity to suit your taste. I worked on cassidy's first post, but changed ot to black and white. Give it a try. Neil

Hey Neil,

Thanks for the hint, I'll have some time to work on my own images again this weekend, so will give your recommendations a go.
