Do most of you do photo restoration as a hobby?

I currently do it as a hobby. As a get closer to retirement and my skills improve, I will probably charge for my services to make a few bucks.

Yeah, I thought the same thing. I wonder how you know when you're good enough.

I think you know when you are good enough when you can start to restore, retouch, or whatever without thinking to much about what to do. You kinda just do it. Also, when I show my work to others, they seem impressed at the befores and afters. I have made a few dollars already but nothing major. I would like to restore and color B&Ws for people in my area that do not have computers and such. I enjoy restoring and manipulating pictures of Veterans, so I may concentrate on that.

Have a good one.

my started when i got a bag of old family photos from my brother. most of them where in bad bad shape, so after a weekend of scanning them the quest began to restore them. now i make a few bucks, but mostly i do it for the fun. you will know your good when you restore a pic and print it off and say darn thats pretty good.

For now it's just for me to clean up and catalogue a jumble of family pictures. I'll admit that I have considered doing it as little business, but I'm afraid if I do it for money instead of love it'll stop being fun.

Rich - I'm on the other side of the country from you. May I steal your idea? :) I like the idea of working on vet's photos. I'm less than 10 miles from Fort Hood and just about everyone (including me) has some current or former connection to the military.

Cheers,
MJ

Charlene,

Go ahead, you may "steal" my idea. Most of the stuff I have done are WWII vets. If you are interested, I will post my very first one. Befores and afters are great to look at. It did not turn out too bad for my first one, I am getting better at it with practice, but I still like my first. Let me know and I will post it.
Then you can post one of yours when you start
