Still working on those backgrounds, finally got some pictures of people to work with. My wife took this on a recent visit home. Does it look painterly enough? Does the background work?

Hiya rab,
Far be it from me to critisize, and I think I can see where you want to go, but for me the overall image is too "orange" (maybe Tango man  ) I think maybe if you change the colour of the background to a cooler hue you may get away with it but I would tone down her face as well (and a lovely face it is!) and it all looks a little too smooth for my taste, but that's just me. See what you think about a blue ground......
Sorry.....John

Hi rab3rd
can I suggest backing off saturation of facial tones using 'layers/new adjustment layer/hue& sat'...then reduce saturation and paint on mask to restore background............background looks good to me

Hi Rab,
Hmmm, on my computer there are whiter spots around the eyes (not too dramatic) but mostly under the lips. Might want to fix those...

Hi Rab,
I like it more now but as Sylvia says, I see white spots and, unless it's this monitor, (I'm at work now) her face has got a greenish tinge to it now.
I like what you've done to the hair tho', looks good.

The best by far Rab, the small thumbnails never do this technique much justice the bigger they are the more painterly they look :)

Do you do your backgrounds on a seperate layer ? if so you could save just the background and change the colour to suit your image
