My name is MJ and I'm 57 years old <shudder>. I grew up in the Los Angeles area and escaped to Texas 30 years ago. About six months ago it hit me (I am a bit slow at times) that I am the last living person in the family who knows who all those people are in the old photographs. I decided I'd scan them and caption them and try to date them. As things often do, one thing led to another. A good part of the photographs are at least 70 years old and some of them are in deplorable condition. I already had a good basic knowledge of Photoshop CS2 and a scanner - why not learn to restore and retouch? With the help of Katrin Eismann's book and a lot of practice and trial and error I'm working away on the family photo pile.

I have two "adult" <cough> children, one long-time husband, and a collection of antique cats. I'm pleased to have a place to pose my stupid questions :)

Cheers,

MJ

Hi MJ. Welcome to RetouchPRO. And a big "howdy" to a fellow Texan.

I can identify with your situation, also being 57 and having the family photo pile. My desire to digitize my pile lead to my studying retouching and restoration and this site as well. It a truly a rewarding pastime.

Hope you enjoy your time here.

No such thing as a stupid question. If you don't know the answer the only thing stupid is not asking it.

Welcome to RetouchPro, hopefully someone here will have answers to some of your questions, and who knows, maybe you'll have answers to some of ours.

Enjoy yourself finding out.
