View Full Version : Silly question - why picture changes when I save it?

Hey there. Here is my problem:

I am using Photoshop CS2 for few weeks now, this problem never occured. I just retouched photo, I am happy with result which I see in Photoshop, so I save it. Then, no matter how I save it (.psd, .jpg), saved picture looks different (as in attached image it is shown). When it's .psd and I open it with Irfanview it looks that 'bad' way, but when I open exactly this saved file with Photoshop, it is again the 'good' version. Jpeg is already 'bad' when I click "Save for web" (in Photoshop preview window its changed already).

I know this is something simple, but I just can't find what :) Could you help me with this issue?

you are either saving with a color profile (without a profile being attached to the doc), or omitting the profile (that is attached to the doc) when saving.

Thanks!

I changed mode from RGB to CMYK and it did the thing.

Michalj, I don't think conversion to CMYK is the answer. CMYK is a colour space that should be used only for offset printing. A photo must stay in RGB for most purposes.

What Photo678 meant, I think, was that your photo is probably in Adobe RGB colour space, which Irfanview doesn't recognise. You should convert to sRGB ("Convert Profile" in the Edit menu) rather than converting to CMYK.

Hi michalj,

Check out View, Proof Setup. The options there can have an effect on how you're picture's appearing.
