Hello guys

I am a semipro photographer who is lost for ideas when it comes to retouching my pictures... i have a big bunch of pictures just waiting to be played with..

You guys are more than welcome to use them to show of your skills, as long as i am credited as photographer, and if i may i will show some of them on my upcoming homepage (has one already, but i am working on a new one) and off course credit you..

You can find more jpg´s at these links... if you want to retouch one of the files, just change the file name in the end... and you will get the RAW file

Http://www.lisbethogjesper.dk/retouchpro/"filename".zip (IMG_3170.zip or XXo02374.zip)

Hey,

Looks like we may be able to help each other. Infact my mission is to offer free retouching so I can build up my portfolio. I primarily will be looking for fashion beauty stuff.

My site is brand new, but I will credit you with pleasure when I create these pages on my site. Only then will I post your shots.

If you want to trade – get in touch.

Thanks for the info! I'd like to purchase a professional camera with good lens (I'm currently looking for the best combination available that creates excellent results, do you mind recommending me a very good camera and good lenses?

I've seen pictures and read reviews priorly relating your combination (the Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II and your Canon 24-70 F/2.8L Lenses) but I'm not very sure if they are oneof the best combinations to have for taking photo's or photo shoots for people like you do.

Hello

As for SLR camera´s you won´t get anything better than Canon´s 1DsII, it is the only Full Frame camera on the market with almost 17 mpix, though mpix is not all, it has a top of the range CMOS which delivers far better colours than the smaller models.

As for lenses, as "superkoax" writes, the 85mm F/1.2L is "State of the art" when it comes to portrait/people photography, as 85mm is where the face does not look to flat or to big... so if you mainly do portrait, make sure that you have a lens that covers 85mm ... (75-300 , 70-200 or similar) and remember to add up if you buy a camera with a smaller chip (Canon 400D x1.6 , Canon 1D x1.3)

By going for the Fullframe camera´s you will also have real Wideangle, not all that + Crop Factor...and you will get a better "Depth of field" with a FF

It is hard to recommend anything, but i would go for Canon fullframe, and if it is not the 1DsII i would buy a batterygrip right away, as most portrait pictures is taken in "Portrait" mode and you will then get the Shutter button where you need it.

And for lenses i would definately go for Canon lenses and especially the L series... it is expensive, but it delivers quality..

You could also go for Nikon, but i would not be able to help you here as i am brainwashed ;-) i have always had Canon...

Hi Jasz,

Thankyou very much for that helpful information! After reading all of that and doing some research, you're definitely right about that Canon EOS 1Ds Mark II camera and the EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM lenses being an outstanding combination. And at the moment my budget is doing fine for me to go out and buy this!

However, I have one last question about Canon camera's, bare with me; the Canon EOS 1Ds Mark II's are really good, but what about the Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III's? I have just noticed that they are a brand new version, would it be better for me to purchase the Mark III instead of the Mark II? Is there a big difference? Does it really matter?

Thanks again, I appreciate your time!

High key effect. Almost passed on these pix because I did not like them (the other pix is in the thread "Ultra high key saturatiion". Uploaded there as an example. Found out that I could not upload here also).

Used a copy of the red channel pasted into a layer with mode luminosity and reduced opacity to taste. The only thing in the red channel is the eye area so that this darkens and increases the apparent saturation of the eyes and makes them pop.

Hi Jordan

There is no 1Ds III only a 1D III which is a camera for sports and press.. it is very fast, 10 pics a second, but you have crop factor 1.3 on it and you "only" have 12 mpix. It is extremely good at high ISO´s

Just ask, and i will do my best to answer..

Larry

great stuff..love your work...tried it on some of my photos, I'll post it later
also photo and model is great :)

jasz,

nice pictures!

i downloaded a few of the zip/raw files. i changed the zip to raw but couldnt load them in psp xi or photoshop cs2. i need the raw data on image size, whether rgb, cmyk 3 channel or 4 channel and header size. both psp and cs2 require this information to open these files. otherwise you have to guess and i'm just not guessing correctly.

Did you use any utility program, such as Winzip (Window OS) or Stuffit (Mac OS) to extract the raw file inside the zip, or did you simply change the file extension from zip to raw?

Kraellin
08-13-2007, 11:18 PM
yeah, read it wrong. all i had to do was unzip it and then run cs2 to read it (psp would only read one of the ten i downloaded). cs2 handled it as a raw and allowed me to convert it to a .tif which i can then read in psp.

so, thanks :)

I think that you introduced shadows that aren't supposed to be in there. That patch of shadow on her cheek is especially distracting. The blacks are clipped and the details of her shirt are lost. The skin is also a bit too yellow.
Just out of curiosity, have you been doing your color and contrast work on a properly calibrated monitor?

superkoax
10-19-2007, 03:10 PM
MrPIXEL: I don't own any calibration hardware and my monitor is my laptop, so therefor it's a bit weird maybe? Is there any calibration things I can do to get better results?

I did struggel with the color managment and the skin, tried like 60 times to get good skin colour...it was either to red or too yellow...color is difficult :)

It can be really frustrating to do color work on an uncalibrated monitor, especially dealing with skin. You should at least use Adobe Gamma that comes with Photoshop to calibrate your monitor. Here's a way that you can try, send a digital file to a pro printing lab and have them print a copy for you. When you get the print back, try to adjust your digital file with your monitor controls to match the print as close as possible.
You know, getting better with color doesn't limit just by doing it over and over again, the observing part is also very important. Aside from looking at high end ads in magazines, studying the paintings by the old masters is also very important even most or all of what we do are in a computer. Look at their works, not on a monitor, but from books and prints under natural lights. If possible, look at the real things in museums. Check them out, especially the paintings by Caravaggio. People regard them as masters for a reason. It's even better if you're willing to get your hands dirty, literally dirty by painting just simple still life on canvas. It'll help not only to improve your sense of distinguishing what's good and what's bad in coloring, but it'll also improve your sense of lighting and composition.

#1 CRW_6879_A.jpg I moved him to a more interesting area of the background, cc'd , retouched & sharpend

#2 Image_1554.jpg Moved her hair over to make her face less round and covered the area by her neck to make it look better . made the hair on the left larger to give more volume, retouched & cc'd the skin, brought out her eyes, and slimed down her arm,

#3 reduced the image on the width to slim down her face ,extended the left side of the background, slimed down her leg and reduced the size of her hand, cc'd hair and skin and retouched skin.

I'm working on some more images and will post when done

jasz -- I would like to take a shot at some of your images (thanks a lot for making them available) but have not been able to get the link to work. I know it's me or my browser because most other seem to be getting them. I have even tried getting to them from your home page but only get a beautiful image of a baby (lisa). I have been trying the following two links:

Http://www.lisbethogjesper.dk/retouchpro/"filename".zip (IMG_3170.zip or XXo02374.zip)

Of course. I always try to play with color balance, masking, d&b, blur for background (which is completly mess :)).

For me best way to make thing looks like this is to play on copy of orginal layer with color balance, then desaturate it layer and put in soft light mode adding mask. Then I add color balance layer as clipping mask and I change color. This fun should be repeated for each of photo element, you like to focus on.

In the end you can sharpen thing selectively.

Thanks for the high quality images =]

I've been looking around for awhile and just reading pointers and tips from everyone which have been a lot of help. First post, just wanted to give one of the images a try, so here's a quick something I came up with.
