I have wanted to be able to make HDR images for soooo long... I finally splurged and bought Photomatix (after struggling and crying over that free program which has a nonsense name beginning with q - lol). Here's two images that helped sell Photomatix and a couple more I have done since I bought it.

I'd love you guys' and gal' thoughts on these! Thanks!

Great results.

Personally, I'm more a fan of Artizen. I find I have more control over the results.

One technique I've found for great images it to create an HDR image, tone map it and then convert to monochrome like this one ... http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/29440958/

Awesome link, Pete. I love b/w too! My favorite will always be color though, overall.

I will check out the program you mentioned as well. Thanks!

I like all the images but especially the ones with the red sky

thanks, Palms! And believe me I know how you feel! I have been wanting to do this for forever it seems!
FYI - I try out both Photomatix and the one "Swamp Donkey" posted (had to 'say' that name just once, Pete - lol). I just downloaded the trial of Artizen. It will be interesting to see how the two compare.

And actually it is very fair. I worked my pho-to-graphin' butt off last month and deserved the treat (that along with my new lens - haha).

The free program - q-whatever - I could not figure that out to save my life - but then, I didn't read the directions either... might have helped?

Nice dramatic pics Dawn.

So what's the fixation with Graveyards about?

Aaah, correction, my dear Gary - graveyard, not yards... lol

It really just happened that this particular day I finally had the chance to head to our local cemetery for some artistic playing around, which I have also been wanting to do for forever. Anyway, so I decided that I was going to finally download Photomatix and give it a shot on these. Just kinda - happened - lol.

and besides, our graveyard is a really interesting place. There's a mass Confederate soldiers' grave there, 2 of John Hancock's grandsons are buried there, the witch's grave, and lots of other stories buried there...

Thanks, btw! I looove dramatic images!!

Just as long as you're not going "Gothic" on us.

No, I agree graveyards can be interesting places, particularly if it's an old one. The old stones and memorials always seem to have been done with more style and interest than they are nowadays and you can get some great angles and detail with them.

Don't know who John Hancock is, so guess I'm gonna have to hit the Google again.

EDIT: Ah, so that's who he is! Well you can understand why someone from my side of the pond wouldn't know who he was. I mean, over here he'd just be another in a long line of rebellious colonials with a penchant for signing documents .

I know about a free program called HDR Shop ( version 1 is free, I'm not sure about version 2). The first page will take you to a free plug in, for the free programme.

This link is the HDR Shop page.

Have absolutely no idea if it is any good :)

Thanks, bonzai. And thanks, Alison, I will have to look into that.

Gary - I really am sorry :( - I knew you were from England, but for some reason at that moment it did not occur to me. Forgive me? :)

Besides - you know how we Americans can be so wrapped up in our own little world, and just pig-headedly assume everyone else is just like us - LOL...

Don't know what gives you the idea you influence anything over here ..... (he says as he finishes his burger, picks up his coke, and switches the TV from Law and Order to CSI Miami) :)

I'm sorry, I just couldn't pass this one up. "HA HA HA HA HA. ROFL. Too funny," I say as I watch PBS and the latest comedy import from Britain.
