View Full Version : Face, eyes, lashes retouch MissOdessa 07-26-2007, 06:20 AM So I found some HQ's of Alicia Keys on alicia-keys.org she's a really good person to practice retouching on because she has a lot of pictures that aren't altered and she has some what bad skin. Shes still stunning tho.
Tell me what you think...

Unfortunately for legal copyright reasons, site owner/admin's policy is "no celeb" pics. Since you linked and did not upload, you're probably OK on this one. pixelzombie 07-26-2007, 11:45 AM looks good, but it probably could use a bit more texture in the face...what were some of the techniques you used? Gary Richardson 07-26-2007, 12:40 PM Too polished for my tastes, any character her face may have had has been removed, leaving a lifeless plastic doll.
If this is what you were aiming for you've succeeded. superkoax 07-26-2007, 02:27 PM what did you do for the ye lashes? mabe give me some pointers here? I'm lost when it comes to eye lashes :D
nioce picture indeed...the skin needs more texture, but eyes well done :D

Well I googled sites that sold false eyelashes & had images of the lashes against white backgrounds. I just turned them into brushes & then used the brush to put them over her eyes. Its really simple. superkoax 07-26-2007, 05:08 PM ooohkey....so how do you make a brush from something then?
cheers for replying to my question!
Gerry Tom K 07-26-2007, 06:47 PM Hi;
I think you did a super retouch.
Your idea of grabing eye lashes from a catalog is creative to say the least..

Well if you take any image and gray scale it (make it black and white)
In photoshop you can turn it into a brush by going to EDIT/Save Brush
This is the site i got lashes from

Nothing special. Beside that, on web format even my grandma can retouch a picture. It's all about details. bella 07-27-2007, 12:25 PM a little too overdone! Unless someone specifically asked me to remove all texture from the skin, I wouldn't do it. I like to clean up the skin, but at the same time, try to keep the texture so it looks natural...like a real person. ashleybreeanne 07-27-2007, 07:15 PM Here is my version: http://i11.tinypic.com/4tseuzm.jpg Nikolas 07-27-2007, 08:40 PM Miss Odessa, good work! However, the eye lashes seem a little too good to be true for me. I looked at your retouched photograph first, and I could immediately tell that they were 'photoshopped' in. Ashley's however seem a little more realistic, and less obvious. I also really enjoyed the slight brown upgrade to the hair that you did Ashley. Nice work to you both! markury 08-24-2007, 02:31 AM I agreed with some opinions that your retouch is a little overdone. Look at the ashleybreeanne's retouch to see the difference. Yes, your retouch is more attractive, but I think that ashleybreeanne's one is more natural, not so plastic (better).
You should use less blurring and a bit more healing brush.
Ofcourse the style of retouches depends from what photographer/retoucher want to achieve. Insensitive. 08-29-2007, 02:52 PM Too polished for my tastes, any character her face may have had has been removed, leaving a lifeless plastic doll.

*Rolls eyes*
Anyway.
Even though it didnt have to be put the way alot of people are putting it,
yes you did smooth out the skin a bit much.
But either way, it still looks very nice.
I love the lashes, they add something extra. You just blurred her face and you gave her a pair of eyelashes. Nothing special. Beside that, on web format even my grandma can retouch a picture. It's all about details.
lol. too true. Insensitive. 08-29-2007, 04:35 PM You just blurred her face and you gave her a pair of eyelashes. Nothing special. Beside that, on web format even my grandma can retouch a picture. It's all about details.
Did you ever stop to think that maybe she wasnt trying to make her look like the cover page of vogue. It clearly stated that she was using it "TO PRACTICE ON" I dont see anything about trying to look proffesional or advanced. She wasnt shooting for something special, just shooting for the basics. The topic is Face, eyes, lashes retouched. And what did she do? She did what she said she was going to do, she retouched her face, her eyes, and her lashes. Your expecting more from her than what she told you she was going to give you in the first place. Good or bad. Oh_Heck 08-29-2007, 10:30 PM Miss, I think you did a fine job personally. Only thing yours may benefit from is trying to retain some of the skin texture in the specular areas. I think yours has much more depth in the face then Ashleys does however.
As far as the eyelashes go, they look fine, although a bit symmetrical. Maybe adjust a couple lashes on one eye to get rid of the mirrored look.
Would have certainly been nice to see a little more tact in some of the critiques i've seen in this thread.
All in all, nice job Miss. kittensuper 08-30-2007, 01:21 AM can i play??
Retouching is done with my retouching Photoshop action kit. I wanted to see how it turned out here and I'm happy with the results. I am still learning!!
