I am looking into ways I can put my retouching portfolio online. I want to have thumbnails which will open a larger version in a frame or something and have before/after rollover effects on the larger image... You know, your typical retouching website. I don't have a lot of time to spend relearning Flash

So how do you guys do your websites? Source it out? Are there Flash templates that work? I've seen a lot of different templates but the ones I've seen are only for image galleries - no before/after rollovers... and I don't know enough of Flash to add Actionscripting to accomplish this.

Any ideas/help/links would be greatly appreciated!!!

don't worry! you do not need to know flash to have those rollover effects. look at dynamicdrive.com and I'm sure you'll find what you are looking for. As for the template itself, if you do not find anything you like, I used to make custom templates and sell them to ebay sellers. if you need a custom template with a little flash animation I'm very cheap.... (but I will leave for holiday on Saturday and come back on middle of August). And if you do not need the template, I'll be glad to help you all the same....

oh, I've searched the net for different tutorials like content loader tutorials, pre loaders, but with good quality...different menu tutorials and other things...

I do it myself in flash. It can be very time consuming, but I like to do things myself when I can. I go to this great site often for my flash learning resources. It's been around for about a decade and it's still running strong.

There are lots of templates out there that you can get, but all of them that I've come across are for gallery purpose only. To get the before and after effect, you need to do a step or two extra in flash, and I don't think those templates contain the original .fla files for modification. One huge thing that I don't like about templates is that they have great potential of looking just like everyone else's websites. Hire someone if you want a personalized website, or learn flash. You can also look into the easier alternative Dreamweaver, it's fairly simple to learn and build a retouching portfolio site.

Made this flash menu in flash about 2months ago...i'm fairly pleased with it...it's inspired by the retouch homepage of...aaargh can't remember...the start menu is of a baby smoking a cigarette...anyone?

i know absolutely zip about the web, and never cared to get into it at all, even during the boom, but now i wish i had, because i needed to make a simple b&a site/portfolio...and it was a pain, i did it in dreamweaver, which is pretty easy to learn, i do all my copy in Photoshop file, so i didnt learrn about setting text. rollovers are also very easy.

but now, if i ever get a little free time in the near future, i really wanna make a try at learning basic html and php....just enough as to where i can can create, a basic and simple back end site. something thats easy to update new portfolio images.

Doing rollovers in Dreamweaver is very simple. Just select insert an object. from the menu system in Dreamweaver, and it will generate the code needed for you. If you want to build a web gallery, you can also look at the web gallery options in Photoshop. It will build several forms of galleries that you can use as is, or quickly modify in Dreamweaver. You can do a lot in Dreamweaver without ever knowing anything about html.

I was hoping that Dreamweaver would be an option. I have MX2004 and have dabbled in it a little. It seems very easy to learn to do what I want.

So you're saying that I can go into Photoshop and generate a web gallery and take that same HTML and open it in Dreamweaver and tweak it to do before/after rollovers? If so, that 's a great idea!!

Here's another alternative. J-Album is a fantastic album generator that has a very large user community. It's free and well supported. There are thousands of skins available also free of charge. Just drag and drop a folder of images into J-Album and it will produce a complete html package including all necessary navigation files. It's completely customizable. I have used it for 4 years in conjunction with MS FrontPage
