View Full Version : Photoshop Help: Red Eye and Shiny-ness lesley1216 07-27-2007, 01:52 PM Hi, can someone help me fix up this picture? I would like to get rid of my red-eye and reduce the shiny-ness on our faces. Any other updates would be greatly appreciated as well.
Thank you!!

duplicate pic
clone brush at 50%/darken mode. cloned over hot spots.
removed some blemishes.
removed red eye with red eye remover tool in photoshop
lightened
just a quick adjustment, but gives you an idea of how much better a snapshot can be.
hope u like. DCobb 07-27-2007, 04:14 PM My try. I am posting a comparison picture and the retouched picture as a single.
dc duwayne 07-27-2007, 06:14 PM Nice snapshot - Just a quickie. Cropped to an 8x10 aspect ratio to remove extra background and shoulders. This also makes a vertical photo that is better for framing.
Duplicated the background layer and used healing brush to remove hot spots and minor skin blemishes. Using opacity slider, blended 65% of this layer with 35% of the original. You don't want to remove the entire glare. After all, it is a flash photo in low light. I tried to keep it looking natural. There is also a red colorcast, which was reduced (left some in intentionally) using Color Balance adjustment layer.
My preferred approach to removing red eye is the select the dark portion of the eyes with the oval marquee, feather about 2 pixels, copy to a new layer and to use Hue Saturation adjustment layer (with the red channel selected) to de-saturate the red.
Finished off with very minor filtering though Neat Image to remove noise due to low light conditions. unimatrix001 07-27-2007, 07:37 PM used the patch tool to fix the shine, and blemishes on skin. ran noiseware used default levels. added layer mask and painted the shirt and sweater to add back some texture to the clothing Dave.Cox 07-27-2007, 08:12 PM Here's my attempt. I only fixed the hot spots, and the red eye. I have not really been happy with the way the red eye tool works, so I don't use it much. I copied the eyes from the blue channel to the red channel to remove the red eye. To remove the hot spots, I use the brush tool set to a close color and set to darken, 50% opacity and 50% fill. I feel like this preserves the texture more than using the clone tool. grannysdc 07-28-2007, 03:29 AM My version of this cute couple.. They look very happy..
Blured and multiplied background to get rid of most of it
Levels.. clone... heal... smoothed skin a bit.. (maybe tooo much.. when I got ready to post it looked VERY smooth)
Lab sharpened
Liked duwaynes' vertical so included one also Alison 07-28-2007, 04:23 AM Used the red eye tool in PS. Corrected the individaul channels in Levels. Clone, Patch and Healing Brush. Cropped image and sharpened. Graphics23 07-28-2007, 05:59 AM Very attractive couple!
Fixed red-eye, hotspots, and blemishes.
Color corrected curves and enhanced with channel blends.
Blurred background and sharpened couple.

Michael solitear 07-28-2007, 06:26 AM Here's my try...... haven't slept yet so will post steps when I wake up.....
Beth solitear 07-28-2007, 03:21 PM Hi Lesley,
On this one I:
Added a new blank layer and used the clone tool to even out the skin - adjusted the opacity of the layer
Selected the eyes and copied to a new layer and increased the saturation then set the layer's blend mode to color dodge and adj. opacity. Ctrl J this layer and set the blend mode to soft light & adj. opacity - I flattened the layers
For the shine I:
Ctrl + Alt + ~ to select the highlights.... when you get the marching ants, click New Adj. Layer icon at the bottom of the layers palette then clicked Curves.
With the Curves dialog box open click (somewhere in the middle of the diagonal line) and slightly lift to lighten your selection, clicked Ok
Now go Filters > Gaussian Blur > and blur to soften your selection.... Adjusted the opacity ...... then Alt + click the Add Layer Mask icon on Layer's palette and with a white soft brush 'painted' the shiny areas to reveal the softened layer you created.
Flattened everything, adjusted colors a little and sharpened....
This was fun to work on..... very cute couple!
