I have scans of caricatures that I need to color in in photoshop. The artist has colored in some of the shirts, etc and I need to erase all of that so I can put in crisp color. Aside from erasing and selecting with the lasso tool, can anyone think of a quicker way to select the shirt- it is not a solid color because it has been scanned and if I for example, try to use the magic wand to select, it only gets a tiny area because pretty much each pixel is a slightly different shade. Thanks for any advice!

Welcome. It is always helpful if you can post an example. I will add that the new Quick Selection tool in Photoshop CS3 is very good with selections.

Assuming all the outlines are in black, try putting it over a white layer, then use the blend if controls to drop out everything but black, letting the white layer show through (doubleclick on the artwork layer to access the blend if controls).

Try increasing the tolerance on the magic wand tool to see if it will select more then a few of pixels. Like DCobb said, it will be easier to give some advice if we had an example to work with. Also, if your artist is drawing them specifically to be scanned and coloured in digitally, you can ask them to not colour in the drawing for ease of digitally painting. Hope this was helpful!
