I shot these yesterday at "The Children's Garden" in Carnation, Washington which is near where I live.

Use them individually or craft a collage or add your own or...???

Enjoy.

Wonderful captures Danny. Almost floraled out (other posts too; lol), but thought I would try a Gouche for this one. Here (http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/6569/yellow20dsc5861jt2.jpg)'s the complete rendering; attached is a smaller crop (same quality level this time). :)

lovely pics, danny!

had a go with a 'glass making' filter in filter forge, one of my own making. the idea being to give things a glass-like look.

i also cropped the top off a wee bit.

Craig that filter will have to go to the top of your list It is gorgeous But the area slightly to the right under the flower is drawing my eye as not quite right

Agreed, one of your best filters. Would love to see more from it, Craig.

Nice shots and amazing interpretations!
Here is mine, playing with smart blur for white contours, diffuse, texture, again diffuse, duplicate in soft light mode...

thank you, palms :) yes, i do think i see what you're saying. you're talking about that area just below the petals, between the stems, and on the right. that gray patch, yes? that is a bit odd. i'll do another :)

and thanks, lk :)

and thank you too, lonk :) i love my glass filters. i have probably 50 or more of them, both mine and made by others. i somewhat pioneered 'glass' in filter forge... somewhat. my 'glass menagerie' filter won me a HIGH USAGE award on filter forge. the high usage awards are what go towards 'paying' for a free copy of the full version. i actually got my free copy by being in the beta program, but i've since won enough high use awards for two extra copies shld i want to cash them in.

steviej is also a glass maker and filter forge enthusiast. he's done far more than i have and is pretty much known over there for being the glass specialist. some of his filters are really amazing and some quite wild :)

and with over 3000 filters in filter forge now (and growing daily), i'd HIGHLY recomment anyone invest in the cost. it really is an amazing program. even if you dont want to make the filters, with over 3000 to pick from this is just an amazing bargain compared to the normal .8bf plugins and cost of those.

Gorgeous flowers. And what everyone is doing with them is eye candy...errr flower candy. Nice, nice work folks.

Craig, your glass is great. I tried for some before I noticed yours. The tute I followed was too hard and I gave up. Nice to see your great results.

I've been away from the painting too long and have lost what little touch I had acquired. Sheesh, I feel like an ostrich. Every day is a new day. I'm relearning and re-exploring old, forgotten paths. Here is my try.

Craig, 3000+ filters to choose from. That's overkill. If you find a couple good ones how the heck would you remember what they were to go back to them again. I know you are having fun playing with FF and some of them are really nice, like the glass one above, but some are also butt ugly. LOL

Janet, very nice! The frame works well.

I'm trying to learn a smudging technique. Here's my first attempt.Very good first time at bat. You did a LOT better than I did.

Take a look at Photomaster's method. I esp. like the boldness of strokes and highly saturated colors. No one would mistake that as a photo! (Well done, PM.)

Thanks for the kind words, Danny. It took me over an hour to do all the petals. I'm also getting used to my Wacom tablet. I've had it for a year and a half just sitting on my desk and collecting dust. I thought it was time to start using it.

Great job PM. After looking at your pic, I can see I still have a lot of practicing to do. Oh well, I have plenty of time.

dee dee, i like your composition. very clever :)

and yes, over 3000 filters does bring a set of organizing problems. it's one of the things i'm after the developers about. they are currently working on a Mac version, so it's going to be a while before i get my wishes on better organization.

however, you dont have to download all of the filters. you get the program and download the ones you wish. me, i download them all as i tend to like to look inside the filters, even if some are 'butt ugly' and see what makes them tick and sometimes to improve them or tweak them for my own use.

and, there is some order to the filters. there are categories like 'creative', 'photo', 'organic' and so on. the filters you make are in their own category, 'my filters'. and, when you find a gem you can mark it in your 'favorites' folder. so, it's not a total mish-mash.

but, what they really need is a way to find and sort better, with more user-created categories. the current category list is fixed and cant be altered and you cant currently create any of your own. so, in that regard, yes, it's sometimes hard to find what you want even when you have used it before.

there's a great long wishlist currently. and one that i've requested and badgered them about is sorting and organizing. so, we'll see what comes about after the mac release.

but, 3000+ filters.... it's kid in a candy shop for me :D

Organization!! Ha, I have so many brushes I can't keep track of them! I can't imagine filters.

I thought it was time to start using it. My hat's off to you for taking the leap. My Wacom is still in the box after 2+ years. (Old habits die hard.) Soon as I get Photoshop CS3 installed, the tablet/stylus will be next.

Note, however, to ensure my long term health both afore mentioned endeavors will wait until I knock off a few more items on the "Honey-Do" list. :)

How about a little BW?

This was pretty much a trial/error exercise of making multiple copies of the R, G and B channels, creating individual layers from them and trying various layer blend mode settings (Overlay was used often).

Each layer had a layer mask filled with black (aka a "hide all" layer mask). I airbrushed with white onto the mask to reveal portions of a given layer that I wanted to show.

Danny, you inspired me to try a little B&W with a splash of color. Duped the pic; cut the blossom out; duped the blossom; desaturated the blossom; did a gaussian blur (50 pixels); set the blending mode to screen; lowered the opacity to 15%; did the same thing to the color blossom but left the opacity to 100%; desaturated the duped pic and used the Levels adjustment to increase the contrast.
