These aren't entries, obviously. I was just fiddling and liked the look of them, so I thought I'd share. Only using blend modes and adjustment layers.

Hi - quick question - can I put retouched photo into my personal portfolio? What about copyrigt?

Doug Nelson

Yes these can be used in your portfolio, you just can't sell copies or claim the original is yours. You should also credit the photographer.

To Calvin Hollywood: Thanks for providing the source photo for this month's contest. It looks like it'll be another very interesting competition. I certainly enjoyed fabricating my entry.

To all entrants: If you are going to take the time and make the effort to enter the contest, please also VOTE when the time comes. The most disappointing aspect of last month's contest was that only 24 of 58 participants voted. That's considerably less than 50%. IMHO, that's simply shameful and unfair to all involved. Make a mental note that your entry is essentially not valid until you vote!

Remember to look at the rules. I'm seeing a lot of entries at the wrong size (hint, hint) ;)

*Final image must be exactly 500 pixels wide and 750 pixels high.

Hey Lonnie,
Guilty as charged, put my entry in last month, which I really enjoyed creating, then totally forgot about it when it was time to vote. Will endevour to do better this month. Again really enjoyed doing this one too.:)
Thanks to Calvin for the photo

Hi Lon,

I might have a real problem here, since I just realized that I'll be on vacation during the voting period. My husband assured me that we can go to "some cyber cafe" so that I can vote. I hope that works out. Otherwise, I might try to send my votes, in absentia, to T.

This may be a stupid question, but I have a photo I'd like to submit to this contest, however, I can not get it to be 100K or smaller. I have tried reducing the resolution to like 30 dpi and saved it at jpeg quality 0, and it's still over. How do I get it smaller?

I just adjust the image size then do a save for web and that does the trick.

I'm in the same situation.

I will be on vacation and completely without access to computer/internet from Sep23-Sep29.

I would like to enter the contest but I feel it is discourteous to enter and not vote, so I've been holding off while trying to work out some options. But so far no luck.

Could arrangements be made to accommodate those of us who will be out of touch during the voting period? I could have my votes ready by Sep22.

Michael

Personally I don't think it's a big deal. Rather than cancelling vacations, or instituting early voting procedures maybe TPaul could attach 'the icicle of shame' to the noses of all entrants who fail to vote.

I posted my entry.

If nothing changes by 5pm tonight then my votes are all set.

If the voting is unlocked early enough on the 23rd I should be able to cast my votes.

Good luck to all! Hopefully I won't get the Icicle Of Shame or be turned into a ...

grrr, I'm struggling to find 5 I really like (and also meet the criteria) - a few weeks ago I was spoilt for choice, now it seems everyone went back and copied other people and ruined their entries - largely with bad 'hovering' stick-on jewellry and tiaras.
This always happens though, we should be able to ban good entries from being editted ;) More is not always better people! *grumbles*

The image was the same for all so it's normal for entries to have many similar things. We have the same subject, guidelines and the tiaras are an obvious choice so my opinion is that is not about copying. U can see the personality in each artwork.
And if u use the word " everyone" , can I ask who did u copy ? :P

I'm talking about people who didn't have those things in their entries have gone back and edited theres after someone else did it.
I have no problem with the concept of tiaras or stick on jewels - just the implementation. A key part of the description was that it should look like a photo but the shadows don't match and its all 'hovering' off the page with bad drop-shadows (for the most part). (as a person who has worn much stick on jewellry and glittery stars - I know what it looks like)

NancyJ,
Chill out a bit, lol. My entry has already been described as brutish by some kind sole, but if I hadn't gone back and looked and edited, and looked and edited, and then looked some more, it would have been so much worse, and if I find inspiration in the work of others, and see and learn along the way, then I for one am happy.
I didnt want to go for some of the overly glammed up looks that have been done, not my style, I read a more darker, sinister book where an ice princess can have a much darker side, so brutish she may be, but she fits with the character I had in mind.

Funny you should ask, CathyH.

This is just hearsay, but I understand that our model's little cousin, also an actress, really liked the teardrop diamond. Since she is about to begin filming a new Manga feature, in which she stars, she borrowed the prop in hopes of enhancing her character!

CathyH

That is funny Lonk.
Here is the evil twin sister of my first princess.

But really I was curious what the princess would look like if I copied the right side of her face and flipped it to make it symmetrical and this is what came out.

Lonk, a funny thing about my entry is when i showed it to my boyfriend he said, " you know what you should do, you should add a frozen tear under her eye" and i gave him the why in the heck would i do that look. Next day you had it, and it looked great so i was like now it would look like i copied so i didn't do it lol. Maybe he's not as artistically challenged as i thought.:)

Interesting alternative symmetry, CathyH. I guess it's pretty obvious why those who did use symmetry went with the left side of the photo!

Curious coincidence, emilylt87. That's one of the reasons I decided to be the first to jump into this month's contest.

Ah, but that is just super, Nancy. I'm thinking that in the movie business, where competition is fierce for eyeballs, less is not necessarily more?

How clever, Doug. I'd guess that incognito look would best suit CathyH's rendition of the evil twin sister.

More from the grapevine...

I heard another producer got a glimpse of our efforts. He liked the look of our model and just happened to be casting a part for the younger sister of Star Trek's 7of9. Here's his art director's vision for 5of9, another gorgeous Borg-in-recovery.

How bout an extreme weather makeover? 5 looks like a 9 of 9 to me Lonnie, (although a tad asymmetrical), and Nancy I also like your alternate - looks more balanced. Cathy, nice eyes, nice hair, nice nose, nice skin, nice area around the mouth...

Thanks Cathy, Lonk and Doug,
I was kinda late putting up my entry and at the last minute decided to go with the simplistic one.... maybe the wrong move. Oh well, I love this type of contest. Love those eyelashes Cathy, an Extreme Makeover contest would be tooooo fun. Like the Borg in recovery concept, Lonk.

Alternative method...here it is.

I certainly enjoyed looking at everyone's unique concept of the challenge. There were some very good entries.

I have a question. Does anyone remember reading a story by Hans Christian Anderson? Disney made an animated movie of it, if I remember right. It was one of my favorite children's stories when I was much younger. Again, if I remember right, it was titled, "The Snow Queen".
