Hi guys

ive been directed here from the POTN forums as i was asking for some help

I would like a piece of software, that could do a detailed scetch like this one

http://tn3-1.deviantart.com/fs8/300W/i/2005/336/6/3/Pepper_Sketch_II_by_Artgerm.jpg

I have tried some other software, but the sw i have used, wont give me that effect like it has been done by hand by an artist.

Any ideas of waht i should use or buy? thanks :)

Eye candy, snap art, there's a great sketch effect- you can do a 30 day trial...

Hi

here is some reading for you to do and to help you make your mind up

http://www.retouchpro.com/forums/photo-based-art/17439-review-one-click-automated-instant-art-effects-volume-1-a.html

http://www.retouchpro.com/forums/photo-based-art/15744-akvis-sketch-plugin-review-gallery-examples.html

on the cheap side there are the two new sketch actions from Mike Warren
and Kent from here ( which are very good )

Not sure if you will get exactly what you want without some input from yourself,
but it will be interesting to see

Welcome CanonUser...

While all the recommendations so far will render a sketchy look, IMO none will yield the quality of the example you posted.

No free lunch here. If one wants this level of quality, a fair amount of traditional drawing/sketching skills are needed.

See this threads at DPReview for examples rendered by the action Palms suggested (there are two 'hot ones' at the moment):
* http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1006&thread=24671436
* http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1006&thread=24559758&page=1
* http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1006&thread=24674093
...These actions work on some pix, but render pretty noisy results on most people images.

Art Master Pro has a very good sketch effect, but this application is expensive for what it does and is very user unfriendly IMO and quite labor intensive.

The Akvis Sketch plugin isn't bad, but again results are far from the quality you're seeking.

Hope this gets you closer...

I have to agree with Danny. The bulk of the work done in your example was done by hand, probably scanned and cleaned up and colorized in Photoshop.

The other alternative is that it was done from scratch using a Wacom, but a very good artist.
