I'm trying to create an image of a car bursting through a picture, so what I need to do is cut a hole out of the main pic and then tear the edges outward and then place the car onto it. How do I give the hole edge that torn, curled up effect? (easily of course!)

You could check out this tutorial for torn edges. It's quite old but still relevant processes.

There's also one on that site for folded or curled edges. So a combination of the two should work.

Hi bodegg. You could just pick up Alien Skin Xenoflex 2, which has Rip Open [1]. It does exactly what you're requesting.

I've installed the demo for 'Xenofex 2' but I can't locate any of the special filters in any of my photo-editing software (Photoshop Elements, PhotoStudio or PaintShop Pro.). What am I doing wrong?

Just realised I've not got the required version of software!

How about just taking a picture of a the actual photo or piece of paper torn in the manner you want. You can shoot pictures of it with all sorts of lighting angles as needed. I think it'd be easier and more realistic to start with that, then do minor modifications in photoshop to add textures or burned edges or whatever other details you need. Then composite that with your car image.

bart hickman is on the ball with his comment, i actuwaly did an add about 5 years ago with a car ripping through a sign, and thats how i did the add. I tried to find it to post here but i cant find the cd for that company. If i find it i will try to post the psd for ya.

Yes I was going to use the manual approach as a last resort, but the 'Xenoflex' demo worked a treat and the end result went down rather well!
