Hi everyone

Would it be possible that some-one could advise on a way to overcome this problem.
I call it loss of definition, but I expect that there is a 'true' definition of its name.
The only way I can best describe it is ti post a part of the actual photo to show the actual problem

Sorry but I know nothing about it or the methods used to copy it
Sadly this is a photo that has been emailed and very little known about its origins
Its just that I have been asked if anything can be done with it

It looks to me like the original is a color print that is fading away due to improper processing or improper storage or a combination of the two. Also I suppose you could add some not very good scanning to the mix just to kind of finish it off. :)

As for fixing it, I will admit that I am a better photographer than a retoucher. If a customer brought me that, I would say to them that I would have to look at the original before I would give any kind of opinion about fixing it.

However in looking at what you have posted, the outlook is not good:depressed But you never know about customers, I have quoted prices that where just out of this world and have had people say go ahead, its worth it to me. I always collect those in advance though.

Actually what it looks like is really bad posterization from a poor quality scanner or one thats really old.Not sure if posterization is the correct term
but,what happens is when scanning if the scanner is of poor quality /really old it has a tendency to compensate or clip colors and the photo you showed is the outcome,not usually that bad but same idea.I have gotten photos with this problem before from people not as bad but same problem,thats why its a bad idea to let people scan there own photos for you to work on never know what you will get
