looks like a nice monitor, i wonder how it compares cost wise to the apple 30" display which is the monitor that gets used for the MVP system...

Im a sceptic about the whole Eizo thing. They seem to have cornered the market recently in high-end monitors, not sure if its justified. Was in a job recently where I was able to compare directly an Eizo with a standard Dell flatscreen, I was able to compare prints directly with the screens both set up with correct softproofing. To be honest the Eizo seemed to have a narrower gamut (too narrow for my liking). The software they provided including the much touted self calibration seemed amateurish, and not easily customisable at all. Maybe I didnt give it a chance, this was only a days work.

Technically what you need is to generate a good profile, and a monitor that can stretch to as mush of of the CMYK gamut as possible (far out Greens and bottom end colours in particular) - to think that an Eizo is giving you a truer representation of print colors is just not the case in my experience. There are other manufacturers making excellent monitors which you can use for high-end colour, in exactly the same way.

The Eizo software is fully adjustable with RGBCMY. No other monitor gives you that capability. If you do NOT have the USB 2.0 cable attached to the computer, an Eizo calibration can be off by quite a bit but still "look" good.

Of course I am talking about their hi end monitors. I have seen some people use some of their lower end monitors thinking that they were getting the best.

I have been using one for years and still swear by them. NO other monitor adjusts the greys like the Eizo does also.

Ok Chris well I take your word for it, maybe I didnt have enough time to spend, sure the USB was connected though. Can't actually remember which model Eizo it was either.

Main problem I found was that the blacks seemed to be flat and I didnt find a way to boost them. Also the white point needed to be taken pretty far away from the recommended range, and again whatever you did they were just not bright enough - comparing prints on a color controlled light box the whole thing just seemed flat - for Greys maybe, but the extremes were very poorly handled - just my experience. Maybe it was a dodgy model as you have said.

Oh man I just ordered my 24" eizo 5 min ago!!! wonder what the price will be.

i don't know what the price will be, but i hope it effects the price on the smaller models, maybe knock it down a bit. Doubt it though!

-IT dpmt won't budge on them though, their arguement is why pay 5k for a monitor that soft proofs, that will have to be replaced every 2 years.

they use 30" apples (main monitor) and 20"ers for tools. sucks.

I would bet they last longer than two years, they have a 5 yr warranty but not sure what exactly it covers.

i don't get it at all, so i can't even argue with them without any backup!

all i know is that i hate the apples, i've had mine at work replaced a few times. I use eizo at home though, and love it.

also, i noticed they come out in Dec.

i feel bad for the gf's / wives / husbands who get this on the list!!

I hope mine can squeeze at least 3 years in :) My crt did the same thing, after a while it couldn't calibrate because there wasn't enough blue...glad to get rid of that boat!

They do last a lot longer than 5 years. Becasue of the way they lock in the calibration, they self adjust to aging quite nicely.
Adam I havev had minde for 3 years and have seen NO signs of drifiting etc.

My wife just ok'd my getting a Canon Mark DSIII. Maybe she'll let me get this one to.

I'm guessing it'll be around 2800 to 3200.

A solid investment :) I'm glad you talked me into the Eizo's I just saw a cinema at the store and the brightness was very uneven with a 50% gray wallpaper and one had a circular darkish spot...not good for $800! The $1700 for the CE is hard to bite but money well spent. Almost went for the CG series but I just had brain surgery so they money is a little tight now...but hey now I can upgrade to the 30" ;)

My guess is that they are trying to avoid Barco's mistake by over priciing and letting the masses get their hands on one.

Could be wrong. I don't really have any idea what their angle is. Just guess work.

The 24 CG series doesnt have the gamut that cg221, the 22" has a full adobe rgb gamut range while the 24" cg has around 96%. I ended up buying the CE series coloredge 24", it doesnt have a wide field of view, but is a lot cheaper, hopefully the gamut is close to the cg series.

i use the Eizo ColorEdge 21, very sharp and clean, a little off in color on the left side but not near as bad as the Apple 23". We compared the LaCie, Apple and Eizo, plus just tested the Samsung 20" very nice.

I've worked on a CG210 for some time now and it's the only monitor that, to my eyes bests, my Lacie (crt) at the home office. I will be replacing my Lacie within the next year - definitely going Eizo, 30" would be nice. Screw palette monitors.

yea i hate palette monitors, and i haven't been on cs3 yet, but don't they have a setup where you can hide your tools and such, and bring them up like the OSX dock when you mouse over?

kr, dunno. probably. I'm a 'tab' guy anyway unless I'm using a palette monitor.
