hi folks,

I have a few hundred digital pics of varying widths which need to apply a watermark to. I can do the watermark ok but i want the watermark to resize it's width depending on the width of the pic. So maybe 80% of the width of any individual pic. I want to batch this so if it's at all possible to do this in an action and someone can help i'd be very grateful. Watermark consists of © and photographers name.

Tia, I saw a QT tutorial on this a couple years ago and it is possible. I don't remember all the details, but the presenter made an action for vertical shots and horizontals that worked by setting preferences for Units and Measures to Percentages (%) first. I just can't remember where I saw the tute. Arrrr!

Try this link (http://www.good-tutorials.com/search/tutorials/watermark). You may find something similar.

thanks both, i'll check that link swampy.

was thinking about pretty much central. The watermark is just text and then bevel and emboss and blending options > fill opacity 0%

Create your watermark and make it larger than the largest dimension of the largest image. Save the watermark as a .psd. In you action after opening the file do File > Place and browse to the watermark.psd. The watermark will be auto-sized to fit across your image regardless of its orientation. In your case I would suggest that the aspect ratio of your watermark not be 1:1 (like a plain copyright symbol).
