So its been a while, but I've just scanned some very old pictures onto my computer for my mom, and as a special treat I'd like to fix some of them up. The one I've been working on is of one of my ancestors houses (don't know who, just know that the date is 1940) but it is very yellowed and stained. I think I've gotten the yellow problem fixed, but not the stains. Am I doing this backwards? Should I do the stains first and THEN the yellow problem? And if so, whats the trick for getting the stains?

The images you posted are really too small to make a good judgment. I just played around, desaturating the yellow spots and then blending the brightness with levels. Finished up with some cloning, and a few little extra details.. :)

I would have posted them bigger, but it wouldn't let me. I had to shrink them down a ton in order to post, but figured small would give you a better idea than none at all.

But so now, you desaturated the yellow spots... did you do that before you fixed the color then?

i gave this a shot. I noticed that the blue channel had all the damage. I used channel mixer adjustment layer to fix the blue channel. then used the eyedropper tool in the levels adjustment layer to reset the black and white points. then colored over the house and grass on seperate layers set to color blend mode. came up with this.

I used your color corrected image, meaning removing the stains last.
