Can anyone help me, I am trying to take away the black and white cop and let the eyes show up on the background, Also to do this with a white background and have just most of the blackness of the eyes and shadows. If that makes sense?
I actually managed it once and I think it had something to do with colour burn?
Any help greatly appreciated.

If I understand what you are trying to do, if it is like the sample I have attached, then this is what to do.
Duplicate the background. Duplicate it a 2nd time. Invert the 2nd copy (now the top layer). Change the blend mode of that layer to Color Dodge. It should look totally white (perhaps a bit of black). Now apply a Blur>Gaussian Blur to the same top layer. A small amout of about 2 or 3 should do it. Now select a soft black brush at low opacity (between 2 and 5 %). Paint over the dark areas to make them darker. If they get too dark or you accidentally darkened white area, just switch the brush to white and lighten those areas.
