Hello. I'm having trouble with my images looking very pixelated when printed. I am currently using Adobe Indesign CS3 and when I place images into Indesign they look okay until I reduce the size of the image. can anybody help me? I save my images in TIFF and they are high res pics.

I have attached the pdf doc which I'm working on so that you mioght see. Thanks in advance

Hi Daniel,

I don't see an attachment, sorry.

Which program are you printing from? Are you setting the dpi in the tiff before placing the image into Indesign? If printing from a pdf, did you set Acrobat to save a 'press quality' pdf?

My workflow would be:
Set the dpi and dimensions of the tiff in Photoshop required for the intended output.
Place the .tiff in InDesign at 100% (although you could re-size, it is recommended to use 100%)
Create a .pdf using the 'press quality' options set to swop.

Good luck.

Thank you! My attachment could not be posted due to the fact that the file size was too big. I am printing from PDF. How do I place the .tff in Indesign at 100%? So its bad to resize once placed into Indesign? Thanks for your reply.

I applied your workflow and it worked out great. I can't tell you how much that helped me. I've been working on this for a week now. Thanks for your help.

Glad it worked out, danielhunter

If you resize in Photoshop you have the control. If you resize in a desktop program you lose that control. For most work it won't create a problem. But depending on your output device, if you re-size, eg. down to 10%, you're sending a lot of unnecessary mb to the output device. If you outsource your output they might recommend that you reduce file size.
